LOL! I've hunted deer, pig and squirrel and I've never had any of 'em get that close to me. It is possible, though, if the wind is blowing hard from the animal toward you.

Pig hunting? Now that's interesting. I enjoy Squirrel or dove/crow (anything flies dies!) hunting. I went deer hunting once. Hiked up the mountain 3am or something (it was a long time ago, I think I was 13) sat up there until 1pm or so. Was so freaking cold it was subzero temp. As young as I was, I was a good sport at remaining still and quite, my dad was happy at least. But my feet got dangerously close to being frost bitten. When we got to the truck my toes already had a shade of purple on them. I wasn’t dressed well enough. Anyway all we saw was a doe and they were not in season. Decided to stick to squirrels and fishing instead.

Is Pig hunting messy? I figure you have to travel across some swampy muddy areas?

When I say "pig," I'm not talking about Charlotte's Web ones with pink skin and curly tails. I'm talking 100-400lb feral pigs with huge pointy tusks that can disembowel you and your dogs in under 10 seconds. Doing it with a pistol or bow & arrow is harrowing at times as those things usually have no fear of humans.

.44 magnum = scary, close-range stuff, especially if you're wearing earplugs to keep you from going deaf from the blast.
compound bow = not bad unless they run right for you after you shoot (because they didn't hear the relatively quiet arrow shot)
12-gauge shotgun with slugs = good, though it does tend to tear up the meat a bit (side shots to the ribcage or head shots are preferred)
.375 H&H Mag or larger with solids = best; can shoot 'em from almost any angle and kill 'em pretty quickly.

You've got 10 lb balls of steel to go at a feral pig / boar with a bow or 6-shooter. Those pigs are some of the most dangerous animals to stumble across in the wild - they charge fast and will rip you to shreds if you happen to miss your first shot or two. I'd rather have a Ruger .44 Carbine than a shotgun with slugs, but I'd prefer my trusty SAR-1 (semi-automatic Romanian AK47) with a couple 30 round clips to be safe.

Definitely going to 4-box Diablo 3 after testing the beta for how well this would work.

Trick is to never go by yourself. These aren't as dangerous as the big game in africa or elsewhere but you still need to use group tactics just in case something goes wrong. Like the boar being a member of a 15-pig pack. At my parents' ranch, they have a couple of feral pig packs that they've counted at over 25 animals. You do NOT want to stumble into the middle of that. :P
