Laptop specs ok?

I've been reading these forums for awhile now and decided I'd like to have a go at 5 box'ing from new chars.

How many chars do you think this:

Would be able to run? I've got my desktop too but I'm looking for a laptop to be able to run at least 4 if it can.

Thats very expensive, You'd be better suited trying a couple of other Manufacturers. Novatech are very good, I've used them frequently in the past. Using a Laptop, even one as decent as that would be fairly dodgy for running 4 Characters. I'd recommend a Quad Core box with about 3-4 Gigs of RAM and 2 Video cards, to be safe.

Gaming on laptops (even ones designed for gaming) is never as good as a Desktop machine, so if Multiboxing is the sole purpose for getting the extra computer, then a Desktop would be far more beneficial.

i have the model just before that one.. its basically the same machine.

while it WILL run 5 clients.. its slow and your video card will lock up frequently. clients in the background will lag a lot and often miss key inputs while theyre locked up and out of CPU focus.

for the cost of that notebook you could buy 3/4 decent desktops.

Agree with the above posters. I've tried multiboxing on a high end laptop before (simillarly specc'd to yours, but 15.4" instead of 17"), and a decently specc'd PC will beat it hands down every time. Laptops just aren't great for multiboxing unless you're only running a single session on them.

I do just that. I use old Pentium M single core notebooks to run Minion's wow sessions. Not the greatest ever FPS and not really the way to go for pvp, but it does have a number of advantages.

Price: You can pick up written off, three-four year old notebooks much cheaper than todays state of the art machines.

Power consumption: My notebooks AC-Adapters eats a max of 60W, times four is 240W, which is probably less than many of you use for the power supply of one desktop.

Heat: These old notebooks have a lower termal design power than the current ones, they just do not get as hot and are leagues below a fancy current desktop processor.

I am overall rather happy with my solution. Naturally I am happy to admit that a part of that is due to this solution being available to me at no cost - which is a big plus for me that certainly does not apply to everyone. =]

I have a laptop with a Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM and Nvidia 7950GTX mobile. I can run 3 WoW clients with no problems at all. I could probably run more if I needed to. They are all in separate directories and in 1280x1024 size windows with all graphics turned down, except clipping plane (terrain draw distance or whatever it's called).

The laptop you linked doesn't seem to indicate what graphics chip it uses. That will make a large difference. Other specs are fine though.

This is fine for PvE. However, the very nature of PvP is more dynamic, so you *will* need to change more on the fly. Thus having a lower frame rate will be quite detrimental to your performance. In reality, Desktops are far superior to laptops, and come at a far smaller price tag.
