Of course, in reality, its more likly some Asian people getting paid 10cents a day.. or maybe some south africans....(insert really poor part of the world here)
hehe
Do you even know where South Africa is ? Please keep generlizations for those that actually know what theyre talkin about........
That depends i suppose on if your referring to the country "The Republic of South Africa" or simply the approximate lower half of the continent of Africa as a whole.
I really have no clue wtf you were trying to get at by 'do you even know where that is'. what kind of an idiot do you take me for? how could ANYONE not know where the hell Africa is.
So, to inform you, of the logic behind my tongue in cheek generalizations: Asia used to be the 'place of choice' for cheap labor. It used to be (probably still is) quite popular to say, ship old computers in bulk to china so poor people could rip them apart(for the trace amounts of valuable scrap). Eg if i was gonna pay people to farm gold, i'd probably go find some really poor people. (tho, now that I think about it, Indonesia might be a good choice too.) However, this is sorta a self defeating process, as you do this more and more, well, the countries and such do not necessarily stay poor. So, now (sometimes) old computers are shipped to poor parts of Africa for the same purpose. (According to what I've read on the internet; if i were less lazy i would go find links to the articles. I don't claim to be a world traveler or God, but it doesn't sound that far fetched. I got unlazy, and here) I can't find the original article, it was really more a collection of pictures; which is why its somewhat hard to find again. So anyway, my logic, in short, if the E-waste thing shifted (slowly) from Asia to Africa maybe the Gold farmer thing will too! Maybe somewhat of a logical fallacy, but hey, i thought it made for a decent joke.
So, anyway, yeah, i made a generalization about Africa. I suppose i should have said Africa instead of South Africa so people wouldn't think i was necessarily referring to one specific country, sorry to any residents of that country I might have inadvertently offended. (If your not a member of that country and I offended ya with that, lol. get a life. really.) No, as far as I know off hand, there aren't any gold farmers in Africa, but hey, it wouldn't surprise me either. Wikipedia does mention gold farmers being in other countries (heh, Indonesia is mentioned by name! ) but not any African nations. Maybe Africa is actually too poor to support that in terms of infrastructure.... /shrug)
I honestly don't know why I bothered to explain the logic behind my gross generalization....it was meant to be funny. In the same vein of people always talking about Chinese gold farmers. really, the whole point was to point out (in a very tongue in cheek way) that it (probably) wouldn't be very profitable for Americans to do that, at least as a primary source of income. (I can totally see some kid doing it just because he thinks its cool, tho)
Lol, wow, that was a long post.
Oh, and @Otlecs, mine neither. I had no idea what i was thinking. Maybe some kinda bet. lol.
But, you can get the state to pay for the daughter. sorta. then give it away after the accounts are back. (legally, i mean. lol.)
