    Default How many using Synergy?

I've noticed on one of the other threads that someone was looking for an application that would translate keystrokes from one machine to another. I.e. I hit CTRL+1 on my main machine and it sends a 1 to the second machine.

Just a reminder... Synergy does do this with the hotkeys, and so far with close to 2 days of /played in WoW with this setup I haven't had any problems. Unfortunately I have not yet had the chance to test if broadcasting to multiple machines works with Synergy. The only bug that I know for sure is that the hotkeys will not send keystrokes to the server screen for whatever reason.

Anyway... just wondering who out there is using Synergy and why. It seems that a good portion of people use Multibox, so I don't want to feel lonely

I tried using synergy on my 2 systems yesterday and it worked great as far as moving the mouse back and forth, but for some reason when my mouse left my right screen it minimized the game. It did not do that when moving from left screen to right screen though.

    Any ideas?
Other than that it seems fine.

I have used Synergy and Multibox. Each program has its draw backs from what I have seen so far.

Synergy -> A bit tough to configure. But once you have it going, it runs like a charm. Except for the crazy right-click to move bug, which I have yet to find a way to fix other than locking the mouse to that screen (scroll lock). However, that's damned annoying to do when I'm doing many things at once.

Multibox -> very easy to setup. However, after a bit of inactivity on the second PC, the whole thing will just stop working. And I have yet to get it to work again w/o having to restart both PC's.

    *shrugs*

I haven't had that happen to me. I leave my dual-boxing systems running most of the time with Multibox running on both, and have no problems when I go back to them. I'll wake both systems up with one big mouse sweep.

I find Synergy to be almost useless for my multiboxing. You can fix the "super spin around" but I always had various issues with it. If it doesn't work flawlessly then I will not use it in PvP. Delays only get you killed and Synergy is great for desktop use but sucks right now for WoW. Get a dedicated mouse per screen.

Xzin - I definitely appreciate your point. However, given that I've seen some of your videos, your multiboxing is light years beyond what I'm doing (obscene respect for what you're pulling off btw... it's awesome). I'm just happy that I'm running two boxes without any hiccups.

On a side note, I'm assuming you're keybroadcasting to your other boxes. What are you using for that?

    Reasons:
    1. I have always had the "10 seconds lags and hiccups bug" with MultiBox, when switching the mouse back from my client to my server's screen. None of the new builds compiled within the last few months fixed that for me.
    2. My main machine is a Athlon with 1,83GHz, one gig of RAM and a crappy Radeon 9600. My second client runs on a Laptop sporting a Pentium 4 Mobile with 2GHz, 512 meg of RAM and some shared memory ATI graphic chip. Both WoW clients are running at minimum graphics settings, the only difference being the medium to high sight range on my main machine, since I am playing on a PvP server.
With this setup, keybroadcasting has always been out of the question for me. It's the good old "follow-assist-heal" macro game for me or nothing. But nothing is not an option. I am doing pretty well in PvE with this setup, but it sucks for PvP (at least Arena and smaller BGs), I give you that.
    3. Hardware upgrades are out of question since I am an university student who does get paid every month, but since I am having a long distance relationship and like a good weekend of hanky panky one or two times a month, all my spare money is spent for traveling.
    4. I guess Synergy is a valid alternative to MultiBox, especially when you are not into the multiboxing with keybroadcasting as your major control technique.

Thanks for the kind words. I am very much looking forward to finishing up my latest project and getting back into WoW. Should be fun with my newly revamped setup

    Vetra keyboard multicaster.

$199.00 Each - you need 2 of them (as they only do 4 computers each). And the PS/2 cables.

I use synergy for normal desktop use and when I run two entirely dissimilar characters. Bearing in mine I play City of Heroes not WoW (got bored of the grind and lag). I find with two N52s and one mouse Synergy works well in this situation.

I use MultiBox when the characters are very similar as I can get layouts to work better together.

I suppose I could work my way through to use MultiBox all the time but Synergy does the job at the moment.
