There is no reason an application that has nothing to do with the internet should be accessing it. It is not an internet application. It is single-PC or LAN.

Relying on user intervention to "re-allow" you to use something you paid for is just wrong, regardless. I shouldn't have to "get permission" at any sort of interval to use software I've paid for.

This is why piracy is rampant amongst primarily the gaming PC sector. So much nonsense that inconveniences the paying user.. or you could go the alternate route and get the game with none of the garbage and none of the hassles.

KeyClone itself is an excellent program, it is just a shame that it comes with such a lousy "activation" scheme.
