Think of focus and place holder. You can use the focus command like and other "/" command, you don't need a macro.

Focus is useful in a macro as a reference point. On my raiding priest, the MT is always my target, the focus is my OT or shackle target. One button heals, the other button chains them down without clicking off of the main tank.
