AHK has the ability to poke a hole in a window to see what is underneath. Would that work with WoW, perhaps to see an alt's minimap?

FYI, the answer is Yes! I like to play full screen and toggle through windows using HotkeyNet. Using AutoHotKey I can cut a hole in my top window to see the minimap of the character below thus making it easier to gather minerals and herbs at the same time.

If you click on it then the background window comes forward. BUT!! Hotkeynet has a way to keep the foreground window on top even though another window has focus so this might be possible.
The latest build of Hotkeynet has the feature to create a window region.

I think the best way is a combination of three things.

1. Keep the main WoW always on top.
2. Punch a transparent hole in the main WoW so you can see the background WoW's buttons through the hole.
3. Turn on "active window tracking" also known as "activation follows mouse" or "X-mouse."

With that combination, when you slide the mouse over the hole, the background WoW gets the focus but the foreground WoW stays physically in place. When you slide the mouse back, the foreground WoW has the focus again. Here's how to do these three things with HotkeyNet:
