Default just started multi boxing : problem with trailing toon

    Hi,

I've just started my first multibox group: priest/lock/lock. Great fun but a little snag.

    My setup is 2 PCs:

    master & slave1 on PC1

    slave2 on PC2

Im using octopus to broadcast the keystrokes PC1->PC2 and this works great.

I'm using autohotkey to replicate keystrokes on PC1 from master WOW window to slave WOW window, but I'm finding that as the slaves /follow, although slave2 on PC2 follows closely the slave1 on PC1 trails a little behind. I can run for about 15-20 secs and slave2(PC2) is still with the master, but slave1(local PC1) just about falls out of /follow range. There's also a noticeable lag between initiating actions on master/slave2, and when slave1 initiates the action.

Anyone else have similar issues or suggestions as to the likely cause? I thought maybe local resource usage on PC1 maybe too high so I've turned the graphics right down but this doesnt seem to help. Is there some latency expected when using autohotkey? I've tested with multiple notepads and there is no noticeable delay.

    Thanks for help.

Have you checked slave1 to see the follow distance? It can look like they are lagging behind, but they are actually right behind you.

checked the follow distance on slave1 and it was definitely trailing the follow on slave2

not only did it appear this way from all screens, slave1 was also getting stuck on a lot more corners/doorways etc compared to slave 2.

    I've switched from:
    master & slave1 on PC1
    slave2 on PC2

    to:
    slave1 & slave2 on PC1
    master on PC2

just using octopus to broadcast keystrokes, no autohotkey and it seems to have resolved matters
(at least until I get into some ugly situation with dead master and wanting to control both slaves hmmmmmm)

The follow distance you see on your main is a graphic "client prediction" ghost and NOT where the server knows your alt is. (i.e.: "These aren't the droids you're looking for.")

    Two comments on performance:
    • Why would you need AHK if you're using Octopus? Just have it handle all of it (I know it works, I do two clones on one machine and one each on 3 others, so it does both of those tasks for me).
    • For your clone having lag issues, I suggest you make three changes.
      1. set both of those WOW.EXE process priorities to "LOW"
      2. set MAXFPSBK to 10 on both copies
      3. set your MAXFPS to like 30 or 40 on both copies
See if that helps any. On slower machines, that can make a HUGE difference (at least, it did on my old single-core box I was using for this)
    Now playing: WoW (Garona)

Yeah. Ditched AHK, just Octopus now

Tried this on the old config (though I'll stick with the new) and it solved the problem. So I guess the /follow navigation is implemented on the client rather than the server.

    Thanks for your help

Yea keeping slave fps at 10 or 20 really helped my performance.
