This might not be hugely interesting to non-mages, but you'll perk right up when you see the damage output: 9,000 damage in 1.5 seconds.

With approximately 170 haste or more, and with Icy Veins up, you can get a Frostbolt + Ice Lance + Ice Lance shatter combo. You can also just do a double ice lance if you don't have time for a frostbolt.

The implication here is that with ~400 haste, you could do this from 40 yards *WITHOUT* icy veins, and from ~20 yards with icy veins.

Hmm. Interesting, though the last time I played my mages as frost (2.2 patch) even with 4 frostbolts going off at the same time it would break on the first crit. That's basically milliseconds apart, so I don't see how this works unless it's on the PTR and they've changed something.

[edit] And really, with a sample size of one duel, I'm not exactly convinced. :P

if there was a way to target elemental's frost nova on the "alt" windows, i'd consider rolling frost mages.

That's how I've always played a frost mage, works wonders when you get frostbite procs. If you get close enough and can drop a frost nova as well it is ridiculous.
