Thread: just say no

Over the last couple of weeks I've expierenced a lot more people asking to come along on a run. I now even have a macro setup with my stock-standard answer. "Sorry, no. multiboxing is hard enough as it is and I don't feel comfortable having another person in the group with me. And my entire macro system is not setup for a 4 man group, it simply would not work for me." This usually results in 3 answers: 60% "Can you change your macros"/"Do you have to use your macros"/"Can I play one of the shaman" or 30% "Ok, let me know if you change your mind." or 10% "STFU, you're cheating anyway"

Ok, swearing is an actionable offense. Its clearly defined in the ToS/EULA. Is swearing in an acronym?
Really, what's the difference. In the grand scheme of life, is typing "fuck" any different than typing STFU? Honestly, we as a society are full of ourselves sometimes. It's like the censorship on TV "shiBEEP". Who are kidding here.

"It's not really their fault "

Sounds like it is their fault. There are 2 times I would pull in someone else.

If I know I can 4 man it (did it with ZF when I was pretty much done with the instance but someone wanted to see what boxing was.
If it is someone I know who doesn't suck and I know has an open mind. This is pretty much 2 people on my server I trust, 1 who I have done arenas with while way undergeared (hopefully soon I can do them while geared) and 1 who I haven't been able to do something with yet, but would be open.

i actually enjoy bringing along a guildy to my heroic runs. I think the only reason it's an enjoyable experience is because i run the "trinity" setup which is more conducive to having random pugs... less vulnerable to human error.

So far I havent found anyone who can match the damage of any of my shamans... except a mage who did a lot of AOE during a shattered halls run (i use a pally tank so can hold aggro over just about any AOE a mage can do if they are specced for -% arcane threat)

I would never try to run with any tank besides myself though. Simply because tanking is the most error-sensitive task and i hate having to trust anyone besides myself to hold aggro.

But yea, i would have absolutely no reason to bring someone i dont know to my instance run... not only would it be harder, but i would get less loot and 1 of my guys would miss out on badges.

I think the best option is to "just say no" and do my own thing.
Multiboxing = Never say LFG. Never PuG.

I've had people not only ask, but DEMAND that I help them with this or that. /ignore was the reponse they got.

I actually took along some random lvl 70 dude to SM cath because he was arguing with me that its not possible do the things I was saying that mboxers do. So i told him to head up to SM and id be up to show him.(I really wanted to prove a point.) So i took him in and my pally and 3 of the shammys. I was lvl 40 and of course had the instance down at that point. I told him to just stand there unless it looked like I was gonna die and in htat case he could pop me a heal. Long story short we hit Mograine and whiteman and I tell him not to help at all. I pull and obliterate the two bosses and he just says "WOW, Im adding you to my friends list. I wanna see some more when you hit 70" Sometime its just fun to show off.

I see your point. Battlestar Glactica uses "frak" instead of "fuck" - its pretty obivous. lol

What I'm getting at here is a simple report fo swearing could get these retards to piss off and leave us alone.
that made me cringed every time I heard it :S Inventing swearwords which mean the thing you want to say but can't say because it isn't PG friendly is such a load of cowpat.

anyways back on track I have a certain set of rules when I box and help someone..

    If it's a stranger:

    A) they will be kicked if:
are afk for 10 mins at a time
allow me to go afk if need be (I need to take care of things from time to time - and I am only doing this to help them)
consistently do things I tell them not too. ( I have a 5 times warning - 3 doesn't allow for mistakes imo sometimes - such as mistakenly running behind me, as this can be accidental but giving them 3-4 chances and explanations why they can't do that will usually make them learn)

    B) I make clear to them that I need them to do something (assign them a roll, they usually feel like they are contributing). this usually makes the whole experience a lot more pleasant because they rly want to succeed in what theya re doing (unless of course they want you to wipe)
    C) Master Looter - no debate, if they want something from the start they must specify what - and if we both want the same I do a 50-50 roll before the boss (usually i can do it alone if he decided to HS - at this point I have another on my blacklist ) I don't mess around either, if they won the roll I give it to them, even if they have been a pain in the ass, but have done every thing i say.

    D) set out the rules of position and attack:
they must always remain in front of my group (except for possibly my main). If they draw agro they should expect me to heal them and not run about (stay put).
if they are a CC class (mage for instance) then they should CC once combat has started and CC at random (better they do that then dps the wrong mob) when they see who I am attacking, follow in suite.
If they are a tanking class, they should do their job in holding mobs, If I steal agro let the mob be (it will die before it can do anything)
If they are a healer <3 just heal when needed (not much to be done tbh and is a free ride most of the time - i don't mind so much because it allows me to 100% dps ftw)

It may sound strict but if they follow those rules the run is usually just as fast as my normal team (especially with a healer), and usually very enjoyable for them and myself ^^ once they get past the whole, omg this guys is soo dictatorial part :P

if it's ppl I know then they have no doubt already experienced my boxing and thus know what to do a friendly group kick and re-invite usually reminds them of what they did wrong :P

as far as healing goes I have a focus dps/heal macro, this I normally use for Earthshocks etc but under these circumstances I use it as a heal for the new team member. If there are more then 2 ppl, then I set the focus on the person most likely to take more damage (a tank or ehn sham for instance) and then heal the other with a round about chain heal.

using that means I tend to have good experiences with other players

If I have a tank join the team then I have to change all of my macro's to /assist tank.
Use a better macro system and you don't have that trouble anymore.
Do set a focus(/focus [someone]) on each toon and change all your macros so they work with the current focus or focustarget.
Now your system works with any team setup.

If it is a warrior you don't want to be assisting them with every cast. You only want to assist to get their main target (they will be getting secondary aggro on other mobs). I would still have my guys assist my main (using w/e method you want), then I (on my main) would assist the tank. This would cause a slight target switching lag on the clones but I doubt it would have any effect. The other advantage to doing it this way is if you want to take out a non-tanked mob quickly. Shaman are great for "tanking" casters between Shocks and Grounding totems.

I'm on Hyjal and I've never tried a PVP server yet. I was looking at wowrealmstatus.net and it says Mag is 73% alliance. Do you have to be a multiboxing Horde just to survive there? Mag seems to have a pretty high load but I just may have to try it and see how it goes.
Get your asses on Mag and join us!! So many boxers our guild roster broke lol! :P

We can hook you up with bags and startup cash as well if you're rerolling.
