Thread: BG depression

    Default BG depression

Wow I saee how much I suck at BG. With freshly turned lv 70 chars all dressed up in green and blue gear from quests, i lost every Eye of Storm and Every AB, WSG I tried. I thought I would be an asset, but when I was attacked by 3 and guarding, I just ate it. Is it purely gear or also some skill?

It was really say day for a new lv 70

Both, leaning towards gear; every fucker and their brother at 70 has s2/s3 gear pretty much rendering any relatively new 70 useless against them, welfare rules the bgs. That, and every BG except AV and sometimes EotS sucks ass, especially for a boxer.

Just do AV until you've got some gear. AB, EotS, and especially WSG is going to be pretty rough if you just keep getting run over. Buy the S2 stuff for honor with your AV tokens and spend a few weeks losing in arena and you'll be fine soon enough. (looking at your gear, get the s2 weapon for honor asap)

Also spec'ing out of totem of wrath to 40 elemental and 21 resto for natures swiftness helps out immensely. 4x insta-crit chain lighting is usually good for an insta-gib (don't forget to purge first).

Personally I did okay in BG right from the moment I hit 70 with my 5 shamans.

I think this is the main reasons:

    - I planned my leveling so that when I hit 70 I would have every blue pvp piece. I bought 3x elemental pieces and 2x resto pieces for 35 extra resilience rating.

    - I spent a lot of time on my UI,macros and keybindings to optimize everything for pvp.

    - I had multibox expirence from before with my priest+4xlocks team in BG

If you have little or no experience of pvp then 5 boxing might ease it slightly but you are going to suck.

My first battlegrounds I was physically shaking from the adrenalin rush, and was unable to think what to do in battle. I just tried to get my dots up and hoped they died before they got to me (they rarely did). Over time I learnt to be more mobile. Use different approaches and was able to react in battle.

I've not five boxed in BG's but I've BG'ed on three different 70's suggest the following

    Here's some general advice.

Get as much pre season 1 gear that can be bought from the quartermasters once you have rep with various factions.

    Resilience will help a lot.

I would also suggest taking one of your characters and pvp'ing that one for a bit. If you dont know how to pvp one char properly you won't maximise the 5.

AV is a great place to learn. My first suggestion is to run with the crowd, so you know the layout and objectives inside out.

BG's are about never being in a fair fight. There might be any number of occasions where you would win 1 vs 1 but a second character will join the fray and you've got a graveyard run. Try to ensure that you are the one with backup. ( once you are competent at pvp on one char your multiboxing will ensure you are never in a fair fight in a good way)

Know the abilities of other players.... know their weaknesses. e.g Go to google type wowwiki <yourclass> how to kill a

Know all your own abilities and use them.

For example in pve I rarely used purge on my shaman. In pvp if I see mages with ice shield up (or whatever it is called) I love sending off a lightning bolt and immediately after it's on it's way I purge. Their shield goes down and they take the full damage.

Organise your setup. Look for abilities that are instant or close to it, as well as big damagers that are on a reasonable cooldown. Have them keybound and have the mappings imprinted in your muscle memory so you can trigger an ability without thinking about it.

Over time you will pick up on which abilities you use in battle most. You will also develop an approach to battle against various characters, even different specs of character. (Including learning to run away from fights that you just wont win).

After a decent grounding in single character pvp you will be awesome as a five man.

Sorry if im repeating stuff but here are my 2 øre. (100th of the norwegian "krone" )

Rep gear = da bomb, and its easy to get. 2resto and 3elem is the best, and if you want 2/2 youll get away with less rep
Play with a healer; you are going to in 5v5, get used to the feel, and how to take care of him (communication, communication, communication!!)

And im actually for never playing solo.... I suck so hard at solo shammy, its a shame.
Im at 1850+ rating in 5s, rarely die in BG, but i will NEVER get a team with my solo shammy above 1500-1600 rating in any size arena team.
Always set tremor totem, its the first thing you do when you dismount, then groundings. 1 fearbomb= gameover, 3+seeds= game over.
Watch your buffs! If you have 1 or 0 grounding totems down, you will need fresh ones.
Main goal is to survive, then kill.
Stay in AV for a while, or EoTS when u have a little experience.
WSG is the worst until you have 700-800spelldmg and 9500+ HP, then it gets better (and you are an asset, not a liability)
AB will always suck, because ppl will never learn to keep their eyes off you..
Yesterday i went through a match in AB with 2 followers, it ended at 1750/2000 other team won.
The 2 following me had 0 flag captures and less than 5k damage done each.. They only tried to survive after i died.

    GL gearing your crew up!

I've been running AV almost every day from 63 to 67 with my 5 shaman. Playing D at the horde base after killing balinda has allowed me to rack up a ton of hks. The alliance filter into the base a few at a time until all the horde side flags are capped. Earthbind totems make a great setup for LB then CL and shock the rest down. I have several AV followers who will find me and help/follow me around. Having a staggered earthbind helps to slow incomming enemies so you have plenty of time to cast. I'm pretty sure if I hadn't been playing D the horde would have lost.

if you 5 box wsg ab av it is always best play def with shammy. you have your totems set and you can deal with most issues.

I run 3 mages priest paladin (PVE herics grp) I play off with them paldin gets them their fast in AV can cap towers and gy before alliance does if they have little or no def

I also run 5 hunters. they can do it all. very fun

never tired 4 shammy and din tough.

Agree with everything thats been said. The good thing about AV is that the gear imbalance is less of a factor and certainly playing defense gives you more time to learn from your mistakes and adjust your macro choices till you are happy that you can respond to any threat quickly. Its all about learning what to do to counter the threat you are facing. Once you have that knowledge to draw on instantly, things will go alot smoother.

The only annoying thing ive found is that when playing defense alot of people seem to follow me around and it gimps the attack. Not sure what you do about that tho.
