Thread: On a Mac?

  1. #1

    Default On a Mac?

I've heard that some folks are running KeyClone on their mac's, and I'm interested in knowing how they are doing this..

Parallels? if so, are you running the WoW client in the emulator as well?

Basically I'm trying to find out if you are running WoW native on the Mac OS X and KeyClone in a windows emulator and if any voodoo magic is required to make that work. I'm looking at setting up OS X on my machine (MacOSx86 specifically) and seeing what I can make fly.

clonekeys is what most people are using on the mac side.

afaik .. people are using an emulator and run wow in the emulator.
people are doing the same thing under linux

i'm fairly certain it wouldn't work to communicate to apps outside of the emulator. if you get that working, please let me know

This is what i"m trying to establish, I'd be suprised to see a machine run 5 copies of WoW in an emulator, wouldn't say it can't be done, but I'd be quite impressed...

Ultimately I'm interested in seeing how well OSX works as a total replacement, I'm eventually looking at dropping MS from my home system entirely since I'm fed up with a specific vista bug and have been considering going to Mac's anyhow... but considering my hardware investment, I can't justify dropping $2400 on a new Mac Pro without knowing for a fact I can do what I want in OSX.

I've just recently started multi-boxing on my mac, and yeah - clonekeys is about the only solution available. Doesn't have many features - there's no pass through lists, so everything you type in one shows up in all of them. I've inadvertently waved at people 3x simultaneously many times now.

I have a little scripting/programming experience, so I keep being tempted to open the source to that and see if I can add any features, but with a 17 month old and another on the way, that may not be feasible LOL

I've been using clonekeys for a while, and the best solution for pass-through is custom keybinds, I just unbind my wasd keys on my followers, and set them to the arrow keys, for when I need to move around. It's clunky, but it works. Then it's just a few seconds to reset them when I need to run them solo, or as a main.

My wish list for CloneKey would be:

    1. Networking - I would LOVE to use my laptop and mini to run more accounts, along with my G5. CloneKey only works on one computer.
    2. Pass-through
    3. Window Tiling

Failing that, I would love a mod that allows for managing several custom keybinds per character.

Another option, is to try sharing one wireless keyboard with different cpus, but I don't know how bad the latency would be.

That's about it. Works. Dual Core Mac with 4GB RAM and five WoW copies running, directories are symlinked to have custom Cache, Interface, and WTF folders for each running instance. Memory usage is ~ 2.59GB with five copies running and my main Window running on 1440x900 rarely gets below 50fps in the big cities.

This simply stuns me... might I ask for some more spec's on your mac? Specifically processor speed and video card? The basic model line would be great too .

wow - yeah, I can't get anything like that sort of performance of my MBP. any more than 2 copies of WoW and the fps really suffers. I hadn't realised that the native client was sooo slow.
