Thread: Linux question

  1. #1

    Default Linux question

Sorry if this has been discussed before, i have searched the forums and have not really found any information that i am looking for.

    My question is as follows.

I am now running 5 accounts on my I mac G5 (2gb ram) and its now clear to me that i need to up grade my machine. i really wanted to go to a mac pro but even as a mac fan boy i find the mac pro way over price for what i can get with a "pc" equivalent.

I am thinking of switching over to a Linux environment and was wondering if anyone on this forum uses lynx to multi box WoW? i have just started to scratch the service of this OS and have a fundamental understanding of it but i am looking for advice etc.

    thoughts?

(i do not want to go to a windows platform simply out of a personal choice)

    thoughts?

    I do.

There's this thread on the official forums with a rough guide to getting WoW installed and running.

The most important part of the whole process is ensuring you have DRI enabled for your graphics card and are using the correct drivers. This can be the hardest part of the whole process.

Once you've got that lot running Keyclone will work under Wine (WIne is an API for Linux to get Mircosoft Windows applications running). I've also found Synergy very useful. Synergy allows me to use a mouse and keyboard with the monitor on the second computer like it was attached to the first.

Any questions I can probably help you out.

Checkout WoWWiki. Great guide on getting stuff up and running.

Also note, if you e.g. run Ubuntu, the official Ubuntu wiki has a guide for for WoW, too. Personally, I do run multiple WoW accounts under Ubuntu from time to time. Works fine. If you're a bit more into tech stuff, you can even configure the X server to replicate the mouse on each WoW instance.
