I play a prot pally geared out of BT, and am currently leveling a shaman in my spare time with the intent of speccing resto at 70. I have come to realize that my best bet for gearing this character up will be to transfer it off so I can two box tank/heal and fill in 3 DPS, since I'm the only tank I know who runs heroics back-to-back-to-back very quickly like I love to do.
So basically, I've got my paladin's UI down to an art, so I want to leave it undisturbed. I've decided that the simplest way to manage the shaman would be to have the second screen out of sight and not even use it, and have a small range of buttons that I will control her with.
I'm thinking
I'll have these buttons laid out intuitively so that they are easy to press when I need to. I'll be using a DX1 to put they keys in the most optimal configuration. The healing block is the only place this looks like it's going to be a problem...
- Totem Macro (stomp down the 4 best totems for the group set up)
- The following individual totem buttons since they are the only ones I'd need in a pinch
- Grounding Totem
- Tremor Totem
- Poison Cleansing Totem
- Disease Cleansing Totem
- Mana Tide
- Earth Shield on the Tank
- Water Shield
- Nature's Swiftness
- The healing block, which I will describe later
I want a 3x5 block of buttons, a chain heal, lesser healing wave, and a healing wave button for each party member, since I'm going to be watching the health bars on my paladin's screen, I'm going to need the buttons laid out so that the first row of buttons corresponds to my paladin, and the second goes to the first party member on his screen, etc. I've but some thought to this, and I think that the only way it's achievable is by making macros for each of these buttons (or a macro for each row and use modifiers to differentiate the spells) The only thing is every time the party line-up changes, I'd need to edit the macros... but I can have an addon to that!
So, what I'd have is an addon that will edit the macros whenever I the party changes... it'll operate something like this...
Whenever an event fires that indicates the party has changed, the master sends into the party addon channel the names of each party member, in order. Eg something like "P1:Pallyname,P2PSchump,P3:Healsya." Any character running the addon who has that character set as their master will be automatically edited.
That's the basic idea at least, a lot of configuration possibilities would be able to be added, along with some niceties.
Only problem case that can't be solved is if the party shifts in combat, you wouldn't be able to fix the desynchronization until combat breaks.
What do you guys think? Is this the easiest way to achieve what I want?
