Thread: Site Suggestion

The how about doing it different. AFAIK for every forum software there are functions to send some sort of initial private message to new accounts. Use it and include links to good sticky posts and wiki pages. At least that is what I do on my forums. Sadly, I can tell you that this will not result in less people asking for information which is posted in sticky threads. I have tried that on my boards to give new users some sort of info mail with all they need, but it didn't change a bit. Most people just delete the message instead of reading. That's on a board with some 20k concurrent users each day.

Whats bothering me more than both answer or ask "dumb question" more than once, is the amount of drama we see on this forums at the moment.

Every day its allways this endless discussion in a new thread all over. One thing is to repeat a question, but isnt repeating this whole discussion much worse?

Sadly, but dual-boxing is beginning to look very much alike the wow community forums. I guess this really cant be avoided when a community gains so many members in a very short amount of time. There is allways someone that is more than happy to start a discussion.

Right now its really hard to learn anything if your a total noob.
I guess that depends on your definition of total noob. I had a lvl 70 Hunter and a lvl 70 Druid before I had ever even heard of multi-boxing. I got a call from a friend... "You should see this guy playing 5 Shaman that are tearing up AV, and some folks tried to report him and the GM's said it was legal!". This was the first I had ever heard of multi-boxing. So I went out, read a few forum posts, quickly found this site, and was multi-boxing in, literally, a matter of hours.

It's just not that tough to learn.

    QFT..... this ^

    What is worse?

The daily newbie thread? Or the Daily Newbie thread that has a bunch of 'veterans in it' pointing out what a waste of time the 'daily newbie' thread is in the first place?
I'm sorry, but to the newcomer this place looks VERY HOSTILE, unless they ask the right questions.

I've even seen threads where someone was asking for advice about: "New to Multiboxing, which classes would you recommend", only to be shot down by a response of
    "WE don't discuss that here"

Is THIS the reputation that these boards want?

I've stuck up for you guys.......feeling you were all unfairly prosecuted....but if the behavior on this board and the MB community keeps seperating people into "classes"
IE (I MB'd longer than you OR I have a Higher Post Count, So MY opinion matters MORE) Post counters are lame

Whoa...come back down to planet Earth and help your fellow man, when he asks a question that you deem "stupid"

cepheus nailed it on the head.......it's the DRAMA.............and people who claim "I don't want to be wasting my time telling you something I already know"

Fine....don't. But don't feel the need to jump into a thread for the sole purpose of:

    1. Calling someone a newb (When in the SAME amount of keystrokes you could have ACTUALLY helped that person, instead of flaming them.)
    2. Pointing them to a 25% working SEARCH engine (When in the SAME amount of keystrokes you could have ACTUALLY helped that person, instead of flaming them.)

How many threads have gone to "? pages" based ONLY on "Veteran Multiboxers" FLAMING or making Smart-Ass comments to the OP?

I'm a musician, I've been playing the guitar for 32 years.........playing guitar is NOT A SECRET THAT I MUST KEEP FOR MYSELF
If someone walks up to me and asks "Man! I've been trying to learn that song for ages, How do you do it?"

I DO NOT say "If you used a search you would've found your answer LOL NUB!"
I DO NOT say "OMFG Can the entire EARTH make sure that no-one asks me this question again!

I have THREE options.....ONE of which, won't make me an ASSHOLE......

    1. I can respond......(And be a complete ASSHOLE) "WTF NUB, theres a search engine that will hopefully tell ya everything I don't FEEL like telling ya
    2. I can respond......(And be a Complete ASSHOLE) "WTF! NUB, EVERYBODY in the BAR asked me how I played that last song, You should KNOW how to play that song because "I KNOW HOW TO PLAY THAT SONG"
    3. I can respond......(And want to pass, what I've learned, on to another person)....by saying "OH WOW, you want to play guitar? Let me show you a few things THAT WILL HELP YOU AND SAVE YOU TIME"....

Which one of those people do YOU want to be?

As a "newb" myself, I can see all the sides here. But let me make a few points:

I can't think of a single thing I haven't been able to learn just from reading the wiki and browsing these forums. There is so much useful information here.

Also, with the amount of exposure Ellay and multi-boxing has received lately, you're sure to get people who think they need to "OMGWTF I need to multi-box to pew pew people so I can be leet too" and want someone to hand them the easy-mode key. And we all know it's not that easy.

The people saying for the veterans to just ignore the newbie posts, the same can be said for the newbies to ingore the veterans post.

Simple solution for all: don't take things so personaly and so seriously; take note of the things that interest you and ignore the stuff that doesn't. I don't know what is so complicated about that.

I do agree with some of your gripes Occam, but the fact remains that although the search is pretty decent, it does fail in some regards but maybe you've never used the advanced search options, that never failed me. I always found what I was looking for.

The fact remains that some people want to get spoon-fed and after a while it irks people. I came here not to long ago knowing nothing about multi boxing, found all I needed to know and was ready to go in under an hour.

The wiki should be easier to find but failing that the stickies are pretty obvious.

I agree partially, but everyone would tell people what they asked in whatever forum they post, then what's the point in having nice forums, each for their own subject.

General forum: General Multiboxing Discussions (Not For Support)

If someone still asks for support there, then it shows that they didn't even read what the forum is for or they ignore it. If one of those arguments are true then that person should put some more effort in things instead of asking imo.

    My point?

If the Veterans don't have anything more important to add to a post other than "L2Search" or other nonsense then STFU. SERIOULSY.

I've been on too many boards where people ("because of their post count (LAME LAME LAME)) think their opinion matters more than a person with a low post count.
Seriously, you could get a Nuclear Engineer with 2 posts and some loser punk with 2,500 posts on a board, arguing about Nuclear Physics, and the punk would win because his post count is higher.

I hope ALL forums in the future do away with the post count thing, because it just makes some losers feel like GODS

If you are going to waste your time typing "Something" in a newb thread, why not make it HELPFUL? instead of "*SIGH* this could've been answered if you did a search"
Instead of typing that , I could have typed "Here's a link to help you" hmmmmm the insult was 10 words, the Helpful hint was 6.

    You decide

One other point.....With the amount of MB QQ going on in the official forums, don't you think it would be in our best interest to make this place look like a FRIENDLY community, rather than an ELITIST one?
