I have noticed some of the members of the community beginning to become upset with the advent of more and more people coming into this hobby/whatever and doing no research at all and asking really dumb stuff that has been covered before. I was thinking that maybe you could restrict access to new posters and limit them to only posting in certain forums. Once they hit an acceptable number of posts and/or prove themselves to have valid questions then the receive full access to the rest of the site. Just an idea. Also they should still have access to view all forums, only restricted access to posting.

Yeah sounds good, its more of a bandaid fix.
It would be better if all the stickies were cleaned up/removed from the stickies (they're in the wiki after all).
Right now its really hard to learn anything if your a total noob.
I know i certainly have trouble finding information i need (i get it in the end). Didn't noticed the wiki existed or even the menu when i first came here.

Vyndree's done a great job cleaning up the Stickies and providing links and I've been chopping off the stickies in the process, it's getting much cleaner

We should not have to do all that, people need to learn to read and look for information before they ask the same question that has been asked 800times before

I think it is a bad idea. The people the constantly ask for help will imo never be able to level toons to 70. They will lose interest and stop MBing. Let's face it Multiboxing isn't for everyone. If this was implemented the people that actually read the stickies and are able the gain the knowledge by reading, would maybe put of the site, because of a min post requirement.

I for one am more of a reader then a person that has a huge post count.

And how would you rate the post? Would the let's say min 50 posts have to be real posts, not just the, I agree, and good idea posts. It would be a huge job to filter out the crap...

A solution could be that a moderator make a post in the silly question post that they read the stickies, and move the tread to a "how not to ask for help section of the forum", could end up being quite funny actually. But, all in all it will mean more work for the moderators.

I have 3 kids, one on the way in November. Don't feed the trolls, lol. If you give them free info they never learn, but if you keep directing them to the wiki and stickies they will eventually learn something.

Lots of Yahoo Groups that teach about programming and MUDS send out an email with a document for new people during sign up. If we had one fairly all-inclusive FAQ/Tutorial document in a PDF format that could be emailed out during sign up and was also available for download from the site that would help. You could always point new posters to the document if their question has been covered. The forums and the wiki are great, but obviously newer people have a hard time knowing what questions to ask and where to find information. If the basics were in one file that'd be helpful.
