Thread: Supercomputer

    Default Supercomputer

I found this article about a college student that built a 26 gigaflop supercomputer for roughly $2500 (article says about $1200 at today's prices).

    http://www.ohgizmo.com/2007/09/03/12...625-gigaflops/

I started wondering if a cluster like this running Windows cluster server would work for running 5 copies of WoW. I could see some massive power coming from 4 systems all clustered together. I think the one thing it lacks is the video output system. That would need some figuring out.

So doing some head scratching trying to figure out if this type of system is feasible for multi-boxing.

    Comments, suggestions?

Keep in mind a supercomputer is built for processing power...WoW is more centered around graphics and then RAM. Very cool though....I've read that article when it was on Slashdot.
I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself. A bird will fall frozen dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself.

Also Windows Cluster server is a high availability solution, not scaled processing...

MS do a Compute Cluster but this is more oriented towards partioning complex calculation into discrete units and assigning them to each processor.

no good at all for a game.
