Default Ultimate AOE group any thoughts.

    I was thinking

2x pally - Concecrate and Ret aura to gather up and get agro
    2xmage - double arcane xplosion
    1x shaman - CL and healing/totem support.

Anyone think that this might be viable. Sounds like AOE goodness to me, but what do I know

nd what do you plan on doing with this group, besides putting on a special FX show?
AOE farming and such. Figured I could get plenty of agro with the pallys then blast down everything with the mages and heal with the shammy if necessary. Just a thought

Not bad but I'd drop one pally and swap the shaman for a priest.. that's one of the setups I have (1xpally/3xmages/1xpriest).

One pally with consecrate is enough to hold the agro. Extra mage will give you more dps and the priest can add to it with holy nova. I have the same key for arcane explosions and holy nova. I've farmed BRD for a while with this setup... pally runs around pulling all the mobs in the area, stop near group and consecrate, mages do blast wave and then spam AE with priest HN.. rinse.. repeat..

for an "ultimate" AoE team, why not have all 5 chars with a targetless aoe? 2 paladins are fine, one prot one holy, holy paladins do plenty of dmg with consecration. If you get enough points in ret you can do sanct aura to boost both pallys dmg. Throw in a holy priest if ya want, Holy Nova helps heal, and keep the 2x mages. I see the idea of putting in a shammy, but it seems like more work to have to target a CL than to just mindlessly spam a "AoE" button. My team (paladin, priest, druid, shaman, mage) has an AoE button that does consecrate, arcane explosion and holy nova. It works great, albeit heavy on the mana use. I should just get tons of mana pots, and go nuts! Even with 2 characters not doing any AoE, i still plow through stuff my level really fast, so much so that I don't bother targeting sometimes, and just round up some baddies, and pew pew dead, and then move on. I guess Fire totems could help, as they are not targeted.

Or just do priests and mages, and drop the pallys. Amplify Magic on everybody too.

Don't locks spamming Seed of Corruption do a lot more damage than mages spamming Arcane Explosion?

Wouldn't the ultimate AOE group for Heroics be a prot pally, holy priest, 2X warlocks, and 1X mage?

My thinking in adding the mage is that they would be great for the mage table, AI, and to ensure enough non-seed damage is being done to trigger the other seeds.

    Yer setup would work great.

Been running pali/druid/shaman fairly good group at aoeing

pali spams consecrate has Retribution Aura,Blessing of Sanctuary and from the druid he gets Mark of the Wild and Thorns. Once things start start hitting the pali its staying on the pali

shaman drops Stoneskin Totem ( when yeh got 5+ mobs one yer pali it helps allot) and Searing Totem cast CL when ever its up and off heals.

druid primary healer auto attacks the pali target when not doing anything or goes all out dps if not much healing is required in cat form.

If I where to make a group only meant for aoe farming I'd probaly go with
2 X palis for 2X consecrate, kings, Blessing of Sanctuary, Retribution Aura, Devotion Aura
3 X warlock one with improved imp then it would be a toss up whether to use Seed of Corruption and/or hellfire( would depends on what kinda gear i could get em)
If the pali can hold aggro while the warlocks are burning in hellfire yeh could spec em for felguard

Seems like THE best would be like what was already mentioned

1x pally tank (consecration really doesnt hold a flame to full mage spam aoe....)
    3x mages
1x priest for the holy nova heals.

I personally think this is the best setup. Bubble/renew pally, have pally run around grabing everything. consecrate a few ticks, watch the fireworks.

We still need a clarification from the OP on what exactly the target is. Are we talking AoE farming instances, motes, Aldor/Scryer rep?

personally I'm loving my pala, priest, 3 x arcane fire mage setup for farming outside of instances. I cant see the reasoning behind the suggested 2 x pala setup. With non-elite targets, my pala never goes below 95% hp and with holy nova spam I never have to worry if the mages take a couple of hits. Farming is all about downing mobs fast, and no down-time. I cant for the life of me figure out why you would want to exchange a dps class for a second pala spamming consecrate.

As far as the warlock>mage arguement goes, wouldn't you just waste a heap of time targeting individual mobs to seed?

As an example, I have been farming motes of life in the dead mire (to the great frustration of anyone else who happens to be doing the same thing solo :P ) My strat is all mount up, crusader aura on all the time, body pull 5-6 mobs (or more if they're close enough to not reset) dismount all chars and consecrate, by the time the mages and priest have run the few yards to the pala he has enough threat and 2 arcane explosion/holy nova takes them all down. My pala is herbalist, so I pick all the corpses, mount up and do it again.

I'm only level 68 atm, but it goes so fast that I almost have all the spawns locked down with absolutely no down time. I could probably stop picking the corpses and get even more motes per hour, but I cant stand to waste all those herbs.

I even did this with blessing of kings on all character instead of wisdom, because some alliance got a bit annoyed with me. Regen while picking was still keeping me at 100% mana for the next pull.

Granted these things dont exactly have a lot of hp, but this was just an example. If I was to start targeting individual mobs to seed it would go a lot slower, and a second pala would just mean I had to spam another AE/HN.

I once ran a team of 2 mages, 2 locks and a priest and it was aoe heaven for non elite mobs, but (and do not unterestimate this) I had the trouble that most of the time I was waiting for respawn. I could clear basically all mobs of one of those mana forges in nether storm in a few pulls but then I could go for a coffee before there were enough mobs respawned to start again.

"Ultimate" depends on your goal, but 4 mages + priest is one of the best.
