As far as inputing a trial key to make another account, just go to the main WoW site and create an separate account using your trial key.
So I tried running from separate install folders and I actually got worse performance. Kinda makes sense though, now instead of reading from one cache, it is reading from 5. Maybe thats why I was getting far greater disk usage?

Try to test in the highest populated areas you can reach on your trials. I entered Orgrimmar with three and /follow broke easily, two was perfect for my smelly old computer (Athlon XP 2400+, R9800Pro128, 1gig Ram).

I am running two per laptop with the same install... No disconnect problems no real lag problems and no problems with different keybindings or macros. Those are all kept in folders per account names.
    Just my 2 cents.
