Synergy with VISTA, or other Software for mouse control for 5 comp setup.

I used synergy on 5 XP machines & Loved it, but I recently put in a new "MAIN Comp" that came with vista.

I can't seem to get synergy working with Windows Vista on the "Server" or main machine & XP on the alts. It worked fine when all 5 were on XP.

Is there a trick to making synergy work with vista, or am I out of luck? If so, what software would you recommend?

I've looked up both Octopus, & Multiplicity, but have no experiance with them and am hoping for some opinions.

To be clear, I don't even want to have 5 simultanious mouse movements (Mouse broadcasting I guess?). I just miss the ability to mouse over to another screen & Click/Loot/Whatever.

Are all your machines communicating?

I remember having to install some extra networking stuff for XP in order for Vista to see the XP comps on my network

I'm currently using Multiplicity with Vista. I've also used KaVoom KM with Vista. Both work fine except Multiplicity seems more reliable for copy/paste across machines. HotkeyNet is what I use to send commands to my main and remotes. Both Multiplicity and KaVoom can use hotkeys to switch control back and forth. I use a HotkeyNet macro to switch control and center the mouse cursor at the same time. HotkeyNet is definitely worth a look!

Edit: Grr, I forgot to say that, at one time I was using Vista as the main and XP on a secondary. KaVoom KMhas a free trial period I think, BTW.

Two issues with synergy in vista that i had:

It wouldn't work right unless i ran it (synergy) in administrator mode.

It wouldn't work right if it autoran (either on startup, or on login). I pretty much have to kill it, and restart it to get it to function. Well, autorun on login works in vista ususally, but ususally dies if you start opening windows. like wow. or firefox. hehe.

I've never used synergy in xp, so this might not necessarily be a vista issue, but i have to periodically kill synergy on the main comp and restart it, because it stops working, for no apparent reason.

thinking about trying some other program, but lazy.

Edit: I have 3x vista machines 3x xp machines. the XP machines ususally work fine, i never have to restart synergy on them. The vista machines ususally stop working if i start a program like WoW or EQ, but not always. Restarting synergy before i run it (as opposed to letting synergy just autorun on login) ususally fixes it. Main machine is vista, and i have to restart synergy every couple hours or so. Which isnt a huge deal, because i only use the mouse for looting, and i try to avoid looting with clones. hehe.
