Hello Multiboxers


Im new, i'm sure you could tell from my post count. I've been thinking about multiboxing on my macbook pro for a while now and i think i'm going to give it a shoot. I've got one Elemental Shaman already and am leveling up another separate elemental shaman with the aim to duel box in PVE and PVP.

I have read the FAQ's posted up here along with a few of the beginners guides which have been a great help , thank you, but ive still got a few questions to ask. Is it really as simple as

1) copy my wow folder ( ive read the wowwiki post on best ways for mac)
2) Open 2 copies of wow
3) log into 2 separate accounts
4) add both accounts the key-clone (there is a mac one linked on this site which had a very nice simple video with it)
5) go to wowiki copy a few simple macros and away i go?

I know ive made it sound very simple but is it a difficult process to undertake? or did i sum it up in a nutshell?
Please dispel my multi-boxing fears.

You forgot a couple steps:

1: install smcfancontrol
2: go to preferences and crank up your fan speed to max

I wish I was joking. It also helps to make sure you have plenty of air flow around the laptop. I stick mine up on some of my sons legos.

Really though you have the gist of it. There isn't that much in the stickies for us mac owners but there is enough information if you search and hunt-and-peck around.

One tidbit. You really don't "have" to copy 2 wow folders. Just go into the wow folder and copy the World of Warcraft app itself. Thats all you need to do - takes up 22mb or so that way vs god only knows how many GB of space. It seems to jump up every time I blink by another GB.

Best way to do it is try it out and see what happens... you got the gest of it though.

For the multiple copies of WoW, it's not needed. Some experience a performance increase, some don't. Try it with just one copy on your harddrive.

For the record, I'm extremely new to this as well, and I live in the pc world and not the mac world... but it sounds like you're expectations are pretty realistic.

One other step is the practice step... multiboxing is taking me a bit of getting used to, but the challenge is making wow more fun again. Simple things like, remembering to suspend broadcasting keystrokes while chating, takes a bit to become second nature.

Last night I couldn't get a one of my accounts to respond and it took me forever to figure out that somehow his "Say" dialog was open. The keys were being transmitted to him, but they were just populating his "say" dialog. (Still not sure how that one account's "say" dialog got opened.)

So the one step that I think you left out of your list is the practice/tweek step... but for me... that's a big part of the fun.

a good way to sync your wows back to a set point.. is to target-self (F1) then hit esc.

no matter what you have open, or not have open, they should all get back to the same point.
no menu and no chat box.

at least, this is what i end up doing quite often.

(add-ons may change this... i suggest testing it for yourself)

Good tip... I'll give this a try... and look how conveniently next to each other those keys are located.

I will look into setting the fan speed higher i had problems with some of the other macbook pros i own but the one im running wow on seems to be doing great with its tempreature after a added just a few more rubber feet to the bottom of it lifting it higher. For the poster who asked "Scro..is that the real you???" unfortunately the link didnt work for me ;(

Well i guess its time for me to put my money where my mouth is and start boxing, does lvl 1-20 solo then 20-40+ Scarlet Monastery sound like a good plan?

I play in a family guild so i enjoy pestering everyone by having all of my 3 guys talk at once in guild chat. I have noticed that when I type fast not all keys are replicated with clone keys (I play on a mac). This caused me to have the same problem you saw. Since the chat window was covered by my main window I didn't see it either and it drove me nuts for a couple of minutes.
