Default How do you guys farm your gold?

Yeah, how do you farm your gold?

I do Sunwell and Ogrila dailies, and when they are done I might go to Death's door in BEM and farm Aldor rep items (they sell pretty high atm).

I was thinking also, would 5x fishing make alot of money? You could pretty easily fish on 5 chars at once. ^^

With my solo 70 I did dailies too at first ... but then I saw that doing quests and mining+prospecting gave me a lot more money per hour. It's even better with an epic mount.
I didn't sell the ore, but prospected blue gems out of it. That gave me more money than selling the ore.

I was at 14,000 gold until I spent a bunch on some items for my shaman and am at... about 11,000 combined now (two 70s). I don't farm gold very hard, I will do between 3 and 7 dailies in any given day, or as many as 15-16 on rare occasions. Even so, if it gets to be a chore I just stop for a few days. I also made around 2,000 gold selling the enchanting mats from the items I was DE'ing while boosting the alts. Heck I may have made 2,500 by now, dunno.

The only real expenses I have coming up are the level 60 mounts for my four alts (~2500?) and the level 70 mounts (~3500?). And I plan to leave most of the quests available for the alts to do at 70, and those will bring in enough gold to cover the mount expenses and then some. Blizzard has given players pretty much every option available to gear up and get the things they need while spending very little gold, and at the same time they have made so many ways to make gold by the bucketful. I am planning to have at least 10,000 gold on hand when the expansion goes live, and may have as much as 20,000 or more. And I plan to be very very cautious about spending it, unlike the past.

I do dailies when I need to (the easy SSO ones - about 6-7 of them) on one or two of my sets of my 5 level 70s. So that's about (6 quests x 10 toons) 60 dailies done in about an hour when I want to , not bad.

Still, I only do them when I need the money. Saving up for WotLK? No thanks. We are getting only 11g or so per daily now. At 80 we'll be getting 50g or so? And Bliz will make the stuff you want in WotLK based on the 50g per daily rate.

Why work really hard now to save up cash that won't be worth much in the future?

It's like living in a hyper-inflation nation in Africa where you better spend any money you have on bread today because every week you save your money is worth 10% less.

You have 3 options in WoW at this point: 1) gear up your 70s, 2) make/save gold, or 3) level up alts. All the work you put into the first will be completely worthless when WotLK comes out. Working on the second will be hugely devalued when WotLK comes out. Working on #3? That's something that you'd have to put the same time and effort into later when the expansion comes out. Pretty obvious to me from an ROI (return on [time] investment) perspective.

That all said, I'm enjoying heroics about half my play time because ... well, it's just fun today.

Even with option 3 you are screwed too because what they will do is decrease the xp required to lvl 2 months after WotLK comes out. I wanted to make a new too so i made my hunter. I get him to lvl 60, a week later i find out that the xp required is now reduced. So all that work that i did i could have cut in half. So maybe get all your alts to 20 because they might keep the 1-20 xp range the same.

They say that your geared shouldn't get replaces with lvl 70 greens when it comes out. They are aiming for lvl 75 to replace your purples with greens. I think that they realized that everyone got pissed that the best purple in the old land was replaced with a green from the first quest.

The three or four thousand gold that I had when tBC went live turned out to be very useful. The 10/20,000 that I'll have at the start of WotLK may or may not be useful, but I'm guessing that I'll be better off with it than without it. I do agree that it's not a good idea to grind it out, especially since you can do a few dailies each day and build up a decent amount of cash by that time.

I just do dailys on my Hunter when I could be bothered. Shaman team has around 3,000gold on it right now. So long as they have enough to buy their standard flyers bang on 70 I'll be happy, and they can then save up the dough for their Epic flyers.

They've already got their normal land mounts, and the 3k should cover their Epic land mounts, so I think I'm right for now, so the Hunter just PvP's mainly.

I'm a firm believer in NOT doing dailies for money (rep is another story) - IF you are at a point where you can farm heroics effectively. I've funded 5 epic flyers within a few weeks barely doing any dailies at all. That's 30k+ gold to put things in perspective. Dailies will give you rep and gold and a few other perks but instances will give you rep, gold, badges, loot, enchanting materials, primals, rare/epic drops, herbs (botanica is nice), ore, and you won't have to deal with people whispering you every two seconds wasting your time.

For example, I usually run through a good portion of heroics in a day an end up with close to 40 large pristmastics (every one you loot is still more profitable than doing a daily), about 20 void crystals, a ton of enchanting materials, 15-20 badges, and ton of other stuff. Just yesterday I had 2 of the Eight of Furies cards that sell for 250g (thats a nice bonus that no daily will ever match in a few seconds of looting). At the end of the day or week, dump all your wares on the AH and wake up in the morning with a loaded mailbox of gold. I know people like to say Dailies are the way to go but IMO its a lot more work for a heck of a lot less. That and doing the same dailies every day is extremly boring, at least with instances you can mix it up a bit or bring a long a friend to make things interesting.
