    Default Follow and assist macros....

Hi, I'm really new at this so I don't know if this has been covered before. I spent an hour last night trying to get a macro that I can follow another toon, other than my primary one and then have then assist/cast as if they were on the primary one. All my casting Macros are set to assist off the primary toon.

Right now what I'm using is:

    /target Velassra/follow/assist

and my casting ones also /assist of the main toon. Am I going to have to make a new, but similar maco for each of the others in the train for whomever might be in lead role? I hope that wasn't confusing what I'm trying to get at.

I just woke up, so, Yea, I am confused.
I am not good at explaining stuff, so I just link few versions to switch mains.
Also it is good idea to read sticky and just search forum for "focus"
I don't know if it helps, but I hope you can find what you are looking for :)

    ON WITH THE FUN STUFF!!

I was workin ZF with my shammy team of 4 and was dyin on the event (was havin fun tryin it anyways) - regardless was dyin a few times...

Those of you who've seen my prior thread on the "non-focus failover" macro have seen this...

    /target [target=Shaboôm, nodead]; [target=Shabôom, nodead]; [target=Shabôôm, nodead]; [target=Shàboom, nodead];
    /follow

OK but what happens when you're ALL dead and you wanna run back? Your guys don't follow you! YOU'RE ALL DEAD!!

    Sooo... 1 easy addition...

    /target [target=Shaboôm, nodead]; [target=Shabôom, nodead]; [target=Shabôôm, nodead]; [target=Shàboom, nodead]; [target=Shaboôm]
    /follow

    Translated?

    /target [target=Main guy if he's alive]; [target=#2 if he's alive]; [target=#3 if he's alive]; [target=#4 if he's alive]; [target=Main guy - YOUR ALL DEAD]
    /follow

Have fun![/quote][quote='Zzyzxx71',index.php?page=Thread&postID=5488 3#post54883]Test it out with one of your guys if you're interested in the "non-focus" mojo - I use these for my attack macros...

    /cast [harm] [target=targettarget, harm] [] Chain Lightning

The only catch is you have to remember - your slaves (the non leaders) have to have the BRAIN targetted at all times. Hasn't been an issue, just something I've had to keep in mind when lookin at my groups targets.

that macro will cast X spell if you don't have a friendly targetted, but will cast the same spell on your friendlies target if you happen to have a friendly targetted.

setup the rest of your slaves offensive spells (or healing for that matter) using that format and you're set![/quote]
[quote='Simulacra',index.php?page=Thread&postID=683 27#post68327]I posted this on anoher thread, but I think people missed it or didn't realise how nice this is:
It allows my brain to set the focus of my mage alts for cc from the brain window and then cast polymorph from the brain window without leaving my brains window
So for me it like having a Pally with 3 seamless CCs :)

I'm making use of the targettarget approach to macros that [url='http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums/index.php?page=User&userID=1955
Zzyzxx71[/url] suggested in this thread: Oooh new assist without focus macro!!

my follow macro for the alts (I only put the brain in as it was a quick test):

    /target [target=Aztrid];
    /follow

my focus macro on the mage window bound to numpad 1:
    /focus [target=targettarget,exists] target

my sheep macro on the mage window bound to numpad 2:
    /#showtooltip Polymorph
    /cast [target=focus] Polymorph

so I select a target with my brain and hit numpad 1, the mob is now focussed for the mage

I select another mob for dps which is my targettarget

I hit 2 and the mage sheeps the focussed mob and I can then get it to DPS my selected target as it's using targettarget NOT focustarget.

I never once left the brains' window :) I've found this to be very quick when things go pear shaped, it's great not to have to click over to the mage screen and lose valuable seconds trying to select a mob from a slightly different pov for cc when all hell is breaking loose.

    <edited for clarity>

I got you covered. This is how I have my macros set up, and let me tell you I dont have to worry about nothing, no more /assist.

    Toon1 (Main)
    F1 /focus Toon1
    F2 /focus Toon2
    F3 /focus Toon3
    F4 /focus Toon4

    F5 /follow Toon1
    F6 /follow Toon2
    F7 /follow Toon3
    F8 /follow Toon4

    Toon2
    F1 /focus Toon1
    F2 /focus Toon2
    F3 /focus Toon3
    F4 /focus toon4

    F5 /follow Toon1
    F6 /follow Toon2
    F7 /follow Toon3
    F8 /follow Toon4

    Toon3
    F1 /focus Toon1
    F2 /focus Toon2
    F3 /focus Toon3
    F4 /focus toon4

    F5 /follow Toon1
    F6 /follow Toon2
    F7 /follow Toon3
    F8 /follow Toon4

    Toon4

    F1 /focus Toon1
    F2 /focus Toon2
    F3 /focus Toon3
    F4 /focus toon4

    F5 /follow Toon1
    F6 /follow Toon2
    F7 /follow Toon3
    F8 /follow Toon4

So When I'm on my main I hit F1 to /focus my self my alts will then focus me.

I run around and hit keys to cast spells. Now when I hit a key when I have a mob targeted my alt will also cast that spell without having to target the mob

    Some macros I use

    /cast [target=focustarget] Chain Lightning
    /cast [target=focustarget] Earth Shock
    /cast [target=focustarget] Frost Shock
    /cast [target=focustarget] Lightning Bolt

You bind these to keys on all your characters you will have no problem with playing. This made the game so much easy.

    I hope this helps you.

    hmmm, thanks Neux,

I saw some of those when I was looking earlier but at that point I didn't really understand what I was looking at.....(I'm a total newb w/ macros.) I've got some basic ones set up, over 2 differnt macros I'm able to line things up how I want them but it's not very efficient

The post you quoted by diamndzngunz seems to be more what I'm looking for if I'm reading it right.....

So if he's on toon2, he hits F2 and F6 and the whole train turns and follows Toon2?

I use focus for my main char. I don't even give a name. I just use /focus party1, so whoever invites gets focused. I use /cast [target=focus-target] DPS for my damage and /cast [target=focus-target-target] for my heals, just incase someone pulls aggro they can get healed. For your "if someone dies" part, you can just do /focus [target=party1, nodead] [target=party2, nodead] etc. That should go to the first person that is alive. But even if my main dies, I my macros still work cause I can still select someoen after I am dead and the others still assist me. /mourn

yea, pretty much, the only thing I dont understand why not have
    F1
    /focus Toon1
    /follow Toon1

    F2
    /focus Toon2
    /follow Toon2

    F3
    /focus Toon3
    /follow Toon3

    F4
    /focus Toon4
    /follow Toon4

    F5
    /focus Toon5
    /follow Toon5

    if you press F1
    and have something like

    /focus Neux
    /follow Neux

then all toons will follow neux, and neux will be focus for every one, even neux himself
    so macros like

/cast [target=focustarget, nodead, exists, harm] fire ball

    will work.

if you go on WoW UI and Macross Forum, there few nice FAQ and guides how to make basics macros, so you can understand what is what at least.

from what I understand, it will be really impossible in AV or any other BG, and if need to bring only few toons for a run, help friend or guild, it will be really hard to work with your setup.

but that is just my opinion.

    Follow and assist macros?

All the ones that I've seen listed on the wiki/forum dont work.

    /target [target=paladin, nodead] [target=mage1, nodead]
    /assist target

    does not work

    /target [target=paladin, nodead]; [target=mage1, nodead];

    /assist target

    does not work

terribly frustrating, all I want the assist/follow macros to do is pretty much what that above is attempting to do.

Just have this macro for all of your alts:

    /follow Dilandach
    /assist Dilandach
    [align=center]5-boxing - Paladin, Shaman, 3x Mages[/align]
    WC-20,VC-25,SFK-25,BFD-27,Stk-27,RFK-29,Gnm-31,SM (G-32,L-34,A-35,C-36),RFD-41,ULD-42,ZF-46,Mar(O-47, P-48, I-48],ST-52,BRD-54,62,LBRS-62,Strt-63,DM-63,Paly Mt Qt-63, Schl-63

If you copy/paste from board, it sometimes can carry over some weird characters that wont even showup, but render macro useless.
so try rewriting it from scratch, and I don't know if you know that or not, but you need to put names of your toons in place of "paladin" "mage"

    /target [target=Neux, nodead];
    /assist target

    have to work...
but to be honest I dont have time to test it now, but I will by the end of this day.

[edit] after testing above macro on random bystander in AH, I can confirm it works as intended, it targets bystander's target instantly :)
but for second person and onward you have to be in party...
don't even have to have << ; >> at the end of every << ] >>, but it really doesn't effect it either.

PS: adding "exists" might be also good idea, like:

    /target [target=NAME, nodead, exists]; [target=NAME, nodead, exists];
    /assist target

or you can have one macro like

    /focus [target=NAME, nodead, exists]; [target=NAME, nodead, exists]; [target=NAME, nodead, exists];

    and rest of macros like

/cast [target=focustarget, harm, nodead, exists] Fire Ball

or what ever version you think works best for you, there at least good half of dozen well know, and even more custom version of follow/assist.

I strongly recommend learning basics, study examples here on board, and adjust for your liking, hehe XD

Its not so much that I was requiring the basics to be learnt or copy and pasting, it was just a case of the macro not being suited to the situation I was using it for.

IE Follow this guy and assist him but if he's dead, out of range or offline then follow and assist this other guy.

All I'd get if I took the first follow/assist target offline is "You have no target" from the other chars. If they've both online, the macro works as intended but take the main offline and it does a "rainman".

Oooh! Well... first post was no clear about it and misleading.

So then yea, just stick with
    F1
    /follow dud1
    /assist dud1

or same thing but with focus.

just stick with what works best for you.
there still people that Alt+Tabing, and they fine with it.
