Many MMO's out there are Multiboxable and AoC is no exception, the game is brand new and needs to have the bugs worked out. From what I have read (haven't played the game yet) is that /follow /assist are in the game mechanics but are pretty clunky at the momentbut will be worked out, both of these functions are the basis for multiboxing. AoC requires very high PC requirements which pushes the doability of it back to 1 client per gaming box. So it's more of a traditional setup.
Also Warhammer on the horizon looks to be easily multiboxable, I'd say just give it time and AoC will have a ton of multiboxers on it

If WoW had no monthly fee, every person with a capable computer would be boxing. So whos to say someone won't make a game with a cheap monthly fee, and great playability towards multiboxibility.

I have a friend or two who now play AoC, but my first criterion for any game now is "can I multibox it". Currently you can't (very well) with AoC, so anything else it offers is moot to me.

Besides, as a relatively new multiboxer, I've still got so much to go through with WoW - it's unlikely my first team will be completed as I want it before WotLK, to say nothing about follow up teams, so it's almost inconceivable that I'd change now.

Hopefully, multiboxing will be thought of more by new MMO makers (Blizzard surely will if it really is Diablo2 they are working on) so I'd like to think that this trend will continue.

while I understand that the game is very very early, and that it is in no way finished and they will continue to refine and finish up some of the things we need, there are some things I have found already that are going to be huge obstacles.

    1. Clipping. players clip eachother, and you can not run through yourself or other players. this will result in a LOT of problems losing alts, running around BGs and cities, where people run behind you to break LoS etc.
    2. Clipping. The world seems to catch you in the oddest places, where you sometimes run right past no prob, and others you hit the terrain in such a way that you stop moving.
    3. Macros. Are they adding these? we need customizations for WoW to be multibhoxed, and I cant see it working without those.
    4. Combat. Very Combo / turn based, where the skill you are using 3 moves from now requires you shoot two times in the right direction before you can complete your action, etc.

I am definately on the lookout for WAR release info, and I am looking forward to it, but I may be playing WoW again by then (probably their strategy)

Like Baulder's Gate? EQ was boxible, but really it's gonna be hard to make an MMO that is multi-box based.
Well yea like those games too but I'm talking like much more so, an MMO truely built around the idea of controlling more than one avatar at a time. Like built in PiP, /follow /stopfollow following in formation, melee units all running up directly to the target once the group has engaged in combat rather than having to mess around with posistioning, Macro's being able to be written all from the main window, main window swap with everybody in the group automatically assisting the new main, etc...
You mean like the old Ultima games (non-mmo)? XI, XII...
    Never played em.
    *gasp*

Seriously!?!?!?! Whoa. Am I showing my age again?? :S
Nah they were around when I was a kid I just never played the Ultima series.

I'd be surprised if a developer actually spent the money to produce an MMO tailored specifically to multiboxers. Most MMOs are multibox friendly even though they probably weren't designed with it in mind, even if the developer understood multiboxing and supported it (which I think is the case with Blizzard). I would expect MMO developers to continue this trend-- design the game with single user play in mind, but take no steps to deliberately discourage multiboxing.

WoW makes multiboxing pretty easy, though I think it's less so than EQ. WoW has many instance bosses and events that are difficult for a multiboxer to handle, due to the need to move people around and target different mobs at different times. But as so many multiboxers have shown, if you stick with it you can beat nearly all of them. I am expecting that Blizzard will continue to make bosses and events that require a lot of individual coordination and action. They won't do it specifically to discourage multiboxers, but because it's more fun for players doing things in a more traditional manner.

There's money to be made in making a traditional MMORPG and allowing multiboxing. I doubt that there would be much money in an MMORPG aimed specifically at multiboxers.

From what i see and read it sort of looks like warhammer is very similar to wow. No combo button to push like AOC. And it sort of sounds like mb friendly and people of the comunity will love mb. I say love because there are some quests if you are in a certain area you get credit for them. I think that AOC was a test to WOW, but i think the true test will be war, it seems to be tested in beta a lot more then aoc, hopefully by the time war comes out it isn't dated.

The graphics in AOC seem a lot more detailed then war. So war might be able to have 5 accounts per pc.

On another note has anyone mb ff xi? I played that game for a month it was great, but spending 3 hours to get a lvl and then a bee kills you and you are right back where you started from. Plus that game is so party ordinated. Without a party even at like lvl 10 you really can't do anything. It took me a month to just get to lvl 20 and have the ability to have the second job. I would also think that mb would be hard too because keeping everyone at the same lvl will be a full time job with the whole lvl down stuff.
