If you are boosting I wouldn't recommend looting anything until SM. It just is a waste of your 70's time. Especially since you can get 100+ gold in like 30 mins doing dailies. if you are leveling a full group together I would loot everything, but for boosting it is too much of a drag.

I've recently starting boosting my team with my 70 'lock in SM. (Team's at 24 atm.)
I've been looting pretty religously. That said, I ran them through the Cathedral a few times last night (yeah, I know a bit early) and only looted the bosses for the blues. Wow, loved the speed. I'm done looting anything other than bosses for now.
I think it depends on your preference. I'm more interested in leveling than gold, etc. If you want to "enjoy the ride" then you'll probably end up looting.
For me, I'll probably selectively loot until Outlands. We all remember how quickly your gear turns over once you hit Outlands.

FFA and loot everything with my main. When the bags are full, I distribute the loot to the other alts for their professions, then continue looting with my main.

all those grey things... they make my repair bill
personally these options:
- master looter
- loot treshold : rare
- non main : pass on loot
this way, the main gets all the loot, and still can divide interesting stuff to alt's.
full bag = trade alt
- master looter
- loot threshold: rare
- MAIN: pass on loot.
the only loot the main sees are blues, and he can assign them to who he wants.

Ive tested ALOT with all of the different loot options.. And it never crossed my mind to pass loot on my MAIN...
Im boosting all weekend for a friend... ML will be on with threshold rareI only care for green + since my 4 shammies are enchers.

There is an addon (I haven't tried it yet but will tonight) called LootFilter that might be assistive in looting.

It loots everything (still have to right click) then matches against keep/delete rules. So you won't even have sparklies anymore. It'll just destroy things you have determined you don't want. Of course, be careful with any mod that auto-deletes stuff from your bag.
