Default 4 hunter + healer - just thinking out loud.

I was sitting daydreaming about getting a team to 70 quickly and also trying to think about something other than 5 shamans. (doesn't mean I wont be levelling a team of them though).

I then thought about something that would be quick to level, good for pvp and might stand a chance of doing 5 mans.

I wanted something that would be quick to level, would be good for pvp (bg's mainly, not sure I'd try arena) and something that might be able to do 5 mans and possibly the odd heroic.

So I thought about a team of 4 hunters with a healer as support. I have a 70 shaman that could spec resto for healing duties, and it might be nice for the ranged attack buff (and bloodlust every 10 mins), also a mana spring totem or mana tide would help to keep the hunters shooting. I also have a 32 druid that I could pick up as the healer for when they level, or could have a priest level with them.

Some strengths I can think of.....

    1. a mix of Frost traps /Freezing traps. Slow pulls down, brief crowd control for a couple of mobs. Snake traps.

    2. Feign death - so long as it isn't resisted there might be scope to have a mob run between the hunters tanks to feign death dropping aggro. (cant remember the name of the other aggro reduction talent - is it feint or something).

    3. Misdirection to pets as another form of crowd control... e.g park pets a big distance away with a freezing trap in front of them. misdirect a couple of mobs over to them (so taking them out of the fight for the amount of time it takes to run to the pet, get frozen, kill pet and run back.

    4. Chain ... so can take a couple of hits (although not as good as shamans with shield)

    5. SIlencing shot (If i spec at least a couple of hunters Marksmanship I can pretty much handle caster mob trash).

    6. Intimidation for at least one interrupt. ( I can't remember if this is a beast mastery talent only). but I would have at least one BM hunter in the mix.

The biggest issue is lack of a tank (assuming I have a healer that can cope with healing the crowd), but if push comes to shove I could end up with a tank, healer and 3 hunter group, but ideally would try and run the 4 hunters and priests.

What do you think - A viable 5 man instance team? It would probably struggle with heroics though.

I'll do it anyway for the pvp side of things, but would love to hear the insights of more experienced boxers.

(perhaps even some that are running something like this already)

I have a lot of experience with hunters.. and I've 4-boxed 19 hunter twinks quite a bit, and um.. well. Here's what you would get:
    • Awesome levelling
    • No problem with 5-mans
    • Awesome for BGs (boar charge x4, need not say more)
    • Useless for heroics without tank and healer help
    • Probably useless for arena due to no off-healing, low survivability

Great assessment.... Pretty much fits in with my expectations.

Ive got a 70 and a 65 hunter already so I'll 3 box two hunters and a paladin healer.

dont over look a paladin as a healer. That attack power buff for pets and mana regen for hunters is amazing while trying to level. And they can take a beating alot more so than a priest. And dont forget about Aura's.... wow.. i think i'm going to go roll a couple hunters with a paladin now.

If you do this, don't get discouraged. Up through the low 60s, pallies tend to suck balls as healers. They suffer similar problems with gear itemization as elemental shammies. Once you get all outlands healing gear, though, they do improve drastically.

for normal bgs a dual weld shammy with improved grace of air is just amazing with 4 hunters. shammy handles any thing that gets in close. Hunters kill all at distance.
4 hunter traps and shammy are a nice hello to rogues and wars wa nt to come in and say HI

I believe that pally + 4x shammy is the most optimal 5-man multibox group. Everybody can heal, wipe recovery, massive DPS, great taking for 5-man groups, the combined value of 4x totems. Anything else is just a gimmick, like my 4 guys are.
