Thread: Legal Question

    Default Legal Question

When power lvling a team of 2 locks and a priest team i have a free spot becuase the pally is lvl 34 and the others are now 24. So until 34 i have a free spot on my team. What i did yesterday was invited some random kid that was out side an instance that i was doing and had my toons follow him. He basically stayed out of agro range. I told him that he didn't have to pay me anything all he had to do want keep my toons in xp range. This worked great because being a melee i need to be close to the mobs and when i have follow on the alts will get agro so i would have to drop them off kill a couple mobs and grab them and drop them off... etc and this takes time. But having the other kid follow me was great cause all i needed to do was kill stuff. Told him out front that i will get all drops (needed mats for de and wool for tailoring) and he didn't care. Every now and then i would give him a couple de mats to sell (i felt bad). He tried to give me gold but i refused. Now to the question is this legal or should i not do this because i can get baned. He got xp for the runs and it cut my time in almost half.

Unless i'm missing something, I do not see any against TOS, in fact I would venture to guess that is just normal gameplay. You were helping him level in the same way you powerlevel your alts.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with having some random come along on your boosting sessions, even if you wanted to charge them in-game gold for the privilege.

Is there anything in particular that made you think there might be something "wrong" with this?

My guess is that he was confusing this with the situation where someone boosts (and controls) other players characters for them. Which is intrinsically not allowed due to account sharing.

Probably was thinking that power lvling other people was banable. I know it is if you charge them real life money, but didn't know if it was ok if you didn't charge them. That is why i didn't take his gold. He got great xp and no worries, but i got all the mats and cloth pretty much, so it is hard to say who came out on top. Pretty much was feeling the "Too good to be true". I mean it cut my time in half. Bad thing is that i lose him at lvl 34

    Nah, you're fine.

It's only bad if you were charging real cash for powerleveling.

You are controlling your main killing everything, not against TOS.

The random person following you at a distance, not against TOS.

Having all of your alts follow the random person is not against the TOS.

"Power Leveling" as often referred by the majority of WoW players is actually referring to Gold sellers/power leveling services that charge real life money to level up another's character.

The REAL definition of Power Leveling is simply to level in a way that cuts down the leveling time compared to normal solo game play. This specific type of power leveling you are using i called "Boosting" or using a higer level character to power level a lower level character faster than they normally would be able to go on their own.

Power Leveling is not against the TOS at all and tons of people do it legitly every day.

HOWEVER!!!! Charging real life money to power level another's character(s) is 100% against the ToS and completely bannable. Charging in game money however is not against the ToS.
