Right now, I attack with the pally, swap to the lock with a thumb button, press two keys, 1 to send the pet, and 2 to start a cast sequence with DOTs. If it gets bad, then I'm back to the pally healing, ignoring further damage with the lock. Sounds like Keyclone might be a good solution (or is it bad to have the healer as the main in this setup?)

If (when) you do decide to use a software solution (keyclone), I would suggest making your Paladin the main. The way you describe above, your paladin is just doing white damage and losing a lot of DPS. If you would rather focus your attention on the lock, might I suggest running with a priest or druid. Both can support you with heals, but can also be easily macroed to add range DPS support.
