    Default 5-boxing with three PCs?

Ok, so I'm really tired of horrid lag in cities and slow load times. I'm currently running 5 wow-clients on my Quadcore (Q6600 @ 3.2Ghz pr. core) with 4 gb ram, 10k rpm raptor and 7.2k seagate as storage drive (I have two 24" widescreen displays and a 8800GTX). While it's running decently, Shattrath is still lag-hell with my harddrive crunching like crazy.

I'm not too happy about the 5 pc solution, partly because of the insane power consumption, the space it would take up and the many monitors. So I was thinking about buying two fairly cheap dual-core pc's. Something in the line of 2 pcs with each of the configurations: dual core cpu, 2.4 GHzish, 2 harddrives (one for each client), 1 22" widescreen monitor (since I have one of these already) a cheap graphics card ($100ish) and 2gb ram. The idea would be running the main client on my current pc with full graphics etc and running two slave clients on each of the pcs. In that respect I have a couple of questions before I invest:

    1. Would I be fairly lagfree in Shattrath on the slave pc's if I'm running 2 clients on one dual core pc in 800x600 with the lowest possible graphics settings?
    2. Is the cheap graphics card able to handle the two clients without trouble?
    3. Will synergy run without problems on the setup with three pcs and four displays?

    With regards,

I'm running almost the same config as you:

    5 boxing:

    q6600 @ 3.6 ghz
    8800 ultra
    4 gig ocz ram
raptor main disk, samsung spinpoints offdisks.

I ran 5 instances on it first, 1 on my main 24", then 4 split into 4 on my 2nd 24".
I also had lag in shatt, usually 1 client with 1 fps, all the rest just fine (no idea why but whatever).
Instead of buying extra pc's I used my laptop to offload 2 clients on

    laptop specs:
    2.4 ghz dual core
    7950 ultra mobile
    2 gig ram

As for screen I still run my main on my first 24", then i have a vertical spliscreen of 2 alts on my right 24" screen, and another vertical split on my laptop (17").

With this setup I don't have lag anywhere. My main is usually at 60 fps, in shatt or so at about 30-40. Raiding environments its a lot lower (15-20ish) but I'm prety sure that's beacuse of addons and such, because with just 1 wow open (when i raid on my main) I have the same fps. (playing on max settings on main, bout middle settings on alts)

So basically what i'm saying is, 3 is not even necessary, 2 will work just fine, lagless

edit: about synergy I don't know, I personally use keyclone combined with Multiplicity, which works just fine

Hi there funkstar - thanks for the reply. I tried running just three clients on a trip to shattrath to check it out and you're absolutely right - totally lagfree. Guess you just saved me the cost of 1 PC, hehe. I'm going for just one more PC then
