    Default Vetra shopping list

    Hey,

Made a pile of cheap boxes for my new hardware team and am about to lay the money down for the vetra.

I just wanted to post this to make sure I have all the parts I need before I place the order as I live in Australia and the shipping costs are a killer. I will be ordering all the parts from vetra as it just makes shipping easier for me (even though it costs more for part).

So using this diagram I found in the main sticky (Multiboxing Wiki - My 5 (Now 10!) Boxing WoW Writeup):
    KEYBOARD
    |
    |
    |
INPUT - Vetra KM SWITCH (8 Port) VIP-708-KM
    1 2 3 4 5 78 (Output Port 1-8)
    | | | | | | | |
    | | | | | | | |-----Port 8 (Unused)
    | | | | | | |-----Port 7 (Unused)
    | | | | | |----To PC X (Port 6)
    | | | | |----To PC D (Port 5)
    | | | |----To PC C (Port 4)
    | | |----To PC B (Port 3)
    | |-----To PC A (Port 2)
    |
Input---| Keyboard Multiplier (8 Port) 2 4 Ports Can Be Daisychained
    1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 (Output Port 1-8)
    | | | | | | | |
    | | | | | | | |
    A B C D X (Computer A-D,X (5x total Y-Mouse or USB to PS/2 input to add a second PS/2 port on CPU A-D,X)) Ports 7 and 8 Unused.

It looks like my shopping list will be:
    - 1 x VIP-848-BC - keyboard multiplier
    - 1 x VIP-808-KM-DE - KVM switch
    - 16 x male to male ps/2 cables VIP-300-6MM-06 - buy all 16 to get some spares 'just incase'

Of course, I will need to buy xkeys and ymice, etc., but do you feel this is all I need from vetra? Have I forgotten anything?

    Thankyou,

    Nox

Thanks Xzin - I actually did see you thoughts re the monoprice cables in your original blog write-up and quite a few other posts - but I have been tossing up in my mind whether it will be cheaper to buy from mono (cheaper cables but pay another shipping charge) or buy it all direct from vetra (same shipping for the vetras but pay more for cables) - I actually did have a look at the monoprice stuff though - huge saving (plus all the different lengths and stuff - I am finding it very hard to find anything similar here tbh)

Hey Furs - I saw that part too in Xzin's writeup and a few blogs/wikis - but I suppose I am a little like Xzin hinted at in his original post - I prefer to go full PS/2 (mainly because I personally don't know any better and can't honestly test if there is a difference) - Xzin did make the untested suggestion?? that potentially they should work - do you guys know if there actually is a bit of extra latency using these? - all fair though, you suggestion is a huge discount on the ymouse

TBH, the main thrust of the post was to clarify how many cables (and of what type I needed) - I am guessing that the number is 16 Male to Male PS/2s from using Xzin's wiring mockup - just wanted to make sure as it's a long way to post for a missing wire

At your suggestion, having a troll of monoprice and I came across this:
    http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

Basically, a PS/2 adapter which takes 2 x PS/2 cables - basically what you guys were suggesting except it doesn't go through USB so I can maintain my 'all PS/2 connectability' at a fraction of the cost!

    Sincerely...thankyou

I had one of those laptop adapters laying around and it didn't seem to work for me. YMMV, though. Also, on monoprice.com, a user comment says that it works for some laptops and not others.

Also, randomly, the usb to ps/2 solution seems to mess up random keys, but usually modifier states. That is, soemtimes holding down the shift key works, sometimes not. sometimes the 'w' key will stop working. or the a key. or the windows key. its pretty random, and always fixed by unplugging the usb and plugging it back in. More annoying than a show stopper, since I have the multiplier plugged into the main PS/2 port, and only use the PS/2 to USB connection for individually controlling a char. (EG, chatting.) tho my chat's look a bit weird sometimes, when a actual key stops working, like w. or a. hehe. people probably think im just a retarded 2 year old that cant spell though, LOL. Seriously considering just buying at least 1 y-mouse for my main machine. Again, YMMV....but if it does post! because i want to go buy whatever brand of usb to ps/2 adapter you got! LOL Sofar, the main saving grace of the USB to PS/2 adapter, is that they were dirt cheap...
