Default Vista 64 and Portrait Problems

Anyone out there know anything about putting monitors into portrait mode? I have a nvidia 8800 GTS and Vista 64 bit. When I go into the Nvidia Control Panel and select Rotate no matter what I do I get an error message back saying that it doesnt support that resolution or refresh rate. I have tried every resolution and refresh rate to no avail. If anyone knows anything about this and can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks

Well, I have Vista x64 and a GeForce 8800 GTS as well, but not experiencing problems like that... you might wanna try to re-install your video drivers (get the latest on nvidia.com), since they might be broken.

I second Marty's suggestion. If updating your video card driver doesn't help then I would also check the monitor driver, since when Nvidia's software tells you "it" doesn't support resolutions and refresh rates, it's probably saying that because it thinks the monitor doesn't support them.

Ok so I took Marty's suggestion and updated my video driver to Nvidia's latest, I also got my monitor drivers and am still in the same boat. It still wont go into portrait mode. Any other thoughts?

    Thanks

p.s. Thanks to everyone for the help

The only other thing I can think of doing is to try a different monitor and/or a different video card to see if the problem is with the card or the monitor.

It is worth noting that not all monitors support portrait mode.

So after doing some research I think it may be my monitors dont support it. So I am wondering which monitors support this? Anyone know? or if your monitor can do portrait mode mind letting me know what you have?

    Again thanks for the help

    I have a Dell 2407WFP and a HP 2335 that I run in portrait.

If you're sure about this then *don't* do the following. Sometimes the monitor does support a particular mode but the driver info is not accuracte. You can force the monitor into a particular mode by unchecking "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display" in Display Settings | Advanced Settings | Monitor. Be sure to note the warning about damaged hardware.
