Thread: 5 Box MC?

Hybrid View

    Default 5 Box MC?

I know that there have been posts and videos of 2 - 5 people clearing old school instances, but has anyone here ever 5 boxed the old 40 man raids? From my experience with the content I would think:

    Onyxia:

    Definetly doable with Paladin+ 4xShaman.

    Phase1:

White dmg from shaman melee and heals on paladin

    Phase 2:

Paladin rounding up and Aoe the whelps , alts on follow to avoid deep breath, LB to bring her down (Might be a mana issue here, would take forever)

    Phase 3:

Tremor totemsX4 should make this a cake walk

    MC:

Most of the fights are pretty straight forward, but curses would be problem with just shamans. I'm thinking a 1xPala, 1xpriest, 3x mages would have the advantage here.

No clue on the 2nd to last boss (can't remember his name, the guy that talks to Rag). Maybe a level 70 pala could tank all of the adds?

Rag would be a challenge, especially with the tank debuff he gives.

Anyway that's my first thoughts. Anyone ever attempted old world content?

In the interest of not getting flamed for the post, please disregard

DId a search and found that Xzin has done it (surprise). Good to know it is possible. Will definetly be trying this out.

We 10manned MC at 70 in DA...it took so long to kill Garr that the corehounds around him respawned on us TWICE. Trash doesn't scale in Raids but the Bosses do; Garr was lv Skull to our 70s, aka +3 to highest raid member, aka 73, scaling his HP appropriately, and damage somewhat-appropriately; we did have to keep the tank healed but it wasn't the same "relative" damage it was at 60.

It would be POSSIBLE but it would take forever and the Pala's mana/hp battery seals would be an absolute necessity for the raid, possibly an spriest too. You'd kinda want a decurser around too if some of them do land on you and they probably will...and if you want to fight rag obviously you'll need a 2nd group to douse enough Runes, assuming you have the Quintessences in the first place, which requires semi-clears to get as well..lol

Wasn't the CD timer changed so that 1 person could douse all the runes in one run? I have 2 alts with the rep and could just bring them both in to do it.... I forgot about that gay rep requirement

Don't worry about being flamed, your post was well thought through, and personally I like to see people talking about this as I'm very interested in old world content. It's one of the reasons I took up multiboxing - I still intend to get my paladin a Thunderfury for bragging rights, although I know I'll probably be trying for many months. That's if I'm successful at all. (And yes, I understand that its utility will be very negligible for m paladin compared to a good spell damage weapon, it's 100% a for show/bragging rights desire on my part)

Still, I think I'm right that if you're looking to frolic in old-world content, multiboxing is an invaluable tool. Personally, I never intend to do most of the content completely by myself. I might do AQ20 or some of ZG solo, and maybe try Onyxia for kicks. My opinion is having a team of 5 reliable characters makes starting up an old world raid easier. I already did Tiger boss in ZG with 8 people, 5 of which were my team
    (Level 69 at the time)...

While starting an old world raid is difficult when you're by yourself, saying you have 5 players and you're looking for a few more makes it a lot easier. People won't think it's a waste of time, there's a lot more chance that the raid will reach critical mass. Also, you will have a large number of players who know you from seeing you around, and are damn curious about what it's like to watch you in action. It's easy to get them to tag along.

I don't know if the cooldown changed or not(it very well could have) but last I heard it was still a 1day(?) cooldown...could be wrong though, the only change I'm sure of is that they made it so you only had to get the Eternal Quintessence instead of the 1-use only quintessence, basically so you didn't have to go back to azshara before every single freakin raid like we did at first lol

And no worries on the flames, it was asked in a way that can encourage discussion and Zin's old posts ain't worth quite as much nowadays(Though not worthless! :P) with all the BC changes + advances we've made in both boxing tech and class/talent selection lol

Oh yea now I remember. You are right, that was the change.

But still even at a day cooldown, the instance wouldn't reset for a week.

Yea the "usefullness" of doing the old world stuff is not why I would do it. (Although the ZG head enchant is still the BEST tanking enchant for warriors)

I always enjoyed the scripted events and the challenge is too good to pass up

I haven't seen half of the Old-world content...and I've played since closed beta.

It's my main reason for picking up 5-boxing.

My guild does what we call "Flashback" raids, about once a month. We hit MC recently with around 10-15 peeps and cleared the whole thing including Rag. The Quin-thingy is a 1-hour cooldown, so we just swapped in some pre-BC alts that already did the quest line, and was able to kill all the runes. Suffered two wipes IIRC.. once on Baron Geddon, but was able to kill when tank was in 200+ Fire Res gear (also used with Rag); second wipe was on Shazz due to the debuff and porting on folks.

IMO a 5-boxer could do some of the bosses, but not sure about major domo and his 8 friends.

as soon as i hit 70 (so i had pretty bad gear) i did a bit of a tour to see what i could clear. I even got ony keys on all my guys so that i could try and kill her.

    here's my results

    1) Ony: Pally lost aggro, healer ran oom, during phase 1. Probably need more spell dmg gear on pally, more mana regen on my priest.
    2) ZG: killed snake boss, wiped on raptor. Was unable to regulate which dps to "not do anything" when they were being watched, thus dps sucked. Healer ran oom, gear issue.
    3) MC: almost wiped on first giant pack, need much better gear to dps it before oom-age. Big problem is that MOB HP are scaled for a 40-man group, a 5man team definitely needs to try much harder to kill stuff in a reasonable amount of time.

I will try these things again once i start gearing up.
