why would you do gathering quests?

I skipped all of the hard gathering quests on my way up, and had no troubles.
For upgrades. I am still in azeroth cloth, when I should be in outlands mail. If a quest reward is a caster mail piece, or a weapon/shield I can use, I'll quest for it.

To each his own. 1-58 I NEVER did gathering quests unless I absolutely have to. Also, in outland, some of the gathering quests aren't too horrible -- and some are quest lines. More xp, more money. I don't have a high level character feeding my shammies money, they gotta make it all on their own, and I have 5x epic mounts & flying mounts to buy!

There are upgrades to be had in outlands without doing many of the collection quests. I tried hard to stay away from them. It's less tedious to me to run Mana Tombs 30 times for leveling than it is to do 5x gather quests... /wrists to me.

Note that the hellfire peninsula contains enough quests to level you from 60-65, so you can skip a lot of these quests. Its better to just skip all the gather quests, use your gold to buy yourself some gear, move on to the next questing area and get access to quests with even better gear and higher gold rewards.

60-65 as a 5boxer? I highly doubt that. I barely squeaked it out to 62.5, though I skipped most of the collection ones unless it led to a long chain. I think that 60-65 solo would be reasonable, considering you get a ton more XP per mob kill.

I remember that pain... I did all the collection quests in Hellfire because I wanted the gear. After finishing up Hellfire, I went back and did all the old-world 60 instances (mostly, just to experience them).

One of those collection quest is for Stormstrike Vest, so that's worth it.

Also, for the amount of time collecting some of those, you could spend the same amount of time and gain Thrallmar/Honor Hold rep killing the orcs below and around the highway. Or, Blood Furnance clear/resets.

Prior to me starting up my melee team I just did the quests for the best gear rewards that the zone had to offer then I headed straight into Ramparts. The mobs give so much xp in there I went from 58-60 super quick. You could probably just stay in here till 62-63 then head off to another instance.

I am also currently working through hellfire quests. So far, I have skipped all the ones that require actually picking up objects from the ground (zephlin parts, ravager eggs, flowers, etc). Some of the looting quests aren't that bad though. The one were you need 40 things from void ridge is not bad at all. Every mob drops at least one, and you can get up to 3 per kill.

For me, the goal is to get to 70 as quickly as possible. I'll take the easy gear upgrades, but I don't want to waste too much time with it. Most mobs my level take one or two sets of lightning bolts to kill anyway.

I tried ramparts last night, and got my ass HANDED to me LOL -- due to lack of upgrades.

I'm not hurting for gold, I would buy upgrades, but it appears most people do what I do these days with green drops... they d/e them. Because sadly, I can rarely find -1- item to use to upgrade one of my girls, let alone 5 of them. Believe me, if a gathering quest becomes too difficult, or too annoying, I'll abandon that bad boy... I'm not that crazy! LOL -- but then again, gathering 150 zep debri must have been a lil' crazy. Ah well!

I just recently finished up the quests in Hellfire Penn too. I followed Suvega's advice and decided to save all quests that were L64 and up, so I decided to do ALL quests, event the collection quests. It actually wasn;t too bad. I was getting about 75k eph. Mind you, I was using 1 priest and 3 mages, so I was able to aoe things about 10 or so at a time. The toughest quest was Cruel's Intentions... I still had to pull in my main for that one....

I do think you'll get to 70 faster by skipping them. But life isn't a race...
