Not a conspiracy, just a marketing method. They released World of Warcraft to coincide with Everquest 2 release. And also they released TBC to coincide with another game during q1. Which game that was I forget.

Wasn't too long after Lotro from memory. Definitely not coninciding, but I remember backing off on WoW a bit to try out Lotro then being sucked back in with TBC release :P
