no response on certain applications

I recently tried to use Octopus and Synergy, they both seem to stop functioning (mouse and keys) for me on my second box when i try to click on certain applications.. like an installer, game launcher, or even in certain games even in windowed mode. I've used the tutorial to configure Octo to the best of my abilities. What I am doing is trying to two box, as the game I'm playing won't allow me to single box, while sharing mouse and keyboard. Is there something I'm missing in terms of settings? Do I need to install the Mouse Filter driver in Octopus?

I'm not savy is this area, I really don't know what else to expand on so I'd greatly appreciate the help!

installer's and game launchers are hardly likely to use Direct Input that amuses me. .I have never known any application to reject the injected mouse input except KasperSky, so could it be a virus scanner? all i can think of.
