Following in my efforts as usual to push the envelope on all things technological.....

I just scanned in something on the highest setting of a fairly cheap $200 scanner. It took about 10 minutes or so to scan.

I scanned in a regular 8.5" x 11" document. Cropped about 30% of it away.

Wound up with 1,377,042,176 pixels.

27056 x 50896 pixels.

62.9 MEG greyscale jpg.

That is 1,377 megapixels. Or 1.377 Gigapixels.

Wow.

I had no idea that modern scanners could get anywhere close to this level of scan resolution.

The GIMP will not even open it.

I wonder if I can get even higher resolutions....
