Spriest healing

First off I'm going to say I know I know little about spriest, but I know they have spells that do DPS and heals at the same time. My questions is in a 5 man group how many Spriest do I need that can stay in Shadowform to heal through a boss? I mean if I could get away with 4 Spriest and a Tank maybe I would need any dedicated healers? Maybe the spell doesn't heal that much. or maybe I just need 2? Let me know if anyone has tried this. I played a shadow priest solo forever, like years, and i was shadow most of the time. the only instance i could effectively heal the whole group while in shadow form was Black Morass, we carried a holy pally that would spot heal but he pretty much didn't have to do anything the whole time, the only problem with the spriest is to heal a buttload on a boss you have to throw out every nuke you have, and those nukes cause a buttload of aggro, so you will most likely pull aggro from your tank unless all you are using is mind flay and shadow word pain. You have to hold back alot to make sure the tank will keep control of the mob. I dunno about spriest x4 but i would think it would be the same way.

So if there were 2 spriest doing the same thing(2x the healing) it is feasible that you could heal through instances, and not aggro too much because you don't have to nuke all the time and the healing aggro is split. I guess this just requires a capable tank.

Since the healing is related to you spell damage, can you really do enough healing at the lower levels(40 - 60)?

i would think it would be possible, only way to know for sure is to try it out :P i know if i'm doing anything hard, like heroics this isn't gonna work but regular instances, it just might

First time I respec'd was to holy at 70, healed through every non-raid non-heroic instance in the game as shadow with no issues.

Personally, if you have 4 VE + VT + mind flay you're all set. Later on in the game you'll see it ticking for 150+ per x 4 every few seconds. I can't imagine it being too bad, but then again I've never tried it. Most of your aggro is on the back end of the rotation, so you should be able to hold it on your tank with that 3 to 4 seconds of GCD's and casting time.

Edit:non-raid non-heroic, I don't recommend doing heroics that way.

I defenitely wasn't looking to do heroics like this, but I was thinking 2 x DPS is better than 1(or 1+) DPS + 1 Healer. And it makes the spell rotations easier as well.

only down side is, hes talking about tanking bosses, which the heal over time of +150 is all fine and good, but i'm thinking of the boss crits and such that will happen and you will need more than a +150 every few seconds on some bosses to get the hp back, but again, i haven't tried it either so it may work, keep us posted!

well the agro part wont be an issue wether you take 1 or 4 imo., if anything having more alleviates the stress a bit as each SP generates the same amount of agro, but if you have 4 times the potential healing for the same threat then great. the only time this would be a problem is if you are going all out on a boss and all your SPs end up miles above the Tanks threat lvl and thus the boss goes and picks one off at a time. If the boss is only a weak hitting one, then this shouldn't be a problem come epic gear

don't forget if you have a pally in the group you have 30% less threat though his blessing and then an additional talented threat reduction.
