Default New Multiboxer - saying hi and thanks.

Found this site a month or so ago and thought it would be great to try multiboxing.

So I read as many posts as i could - stickies and guides especially. Browsed over to the wiki and read some more and on saturday morning set it all up. I used vista's symbolic links to copy the wow folder and installed the incredibly wonderful keyclone which is amazing.

All I can say is - I am now totally hooked. I had ordered a quad core machine that I hope to setup so I can eventually 5 box,but that hadn't arrived so i decided to try it out with just two characters, and my two draenei shaman were born. (this is running on an athlon laptop, with 2 gig of ram and a low level nvidia). It runs wow at rubbish frame rates in full screen mode so I run wow in a window, yet this device was able to run two instances of wow, no problem. I was going to retire this laptop when the Quad arrived but may now use it to control two of my chars.

Total time to setup was less than half an hour.

Minor annoyances (which will get expanded when I five box) are looting. I've seen the looting solution and it seems a pain to setup but will try it. I also wonder if there is some way to turn on master loot even for greys and just assign the items. Probably not.

Unfortunately my draenei shamans are going to die. I'm a horde man at heart - and my 70 lock, 70 hunter and 66 shaman won't be able to offer boosts through instances for my draenei shaman, so it looks like I'm either going to start some more orc shamans or perhaps a mix of orc and troll (they have the same starting area).

So, a rambling, unfocused post to introduce my self to the community - and a big thankyou for the help and sheer volume of information this site has already provided. (And one big final congratulations to the author of keyclone for a superb piece of software that has made life sooo much easier).

Oh, two final thankyous. One to veronika for her wonderful magisters terrace (heroic) video. I particularly liked the foolish shammy who decided to take all five of you on before you had even entered the instance, and one to the author of the video (I forgot your username so apologies) for your wonderful mechanar totem farming video. I learnt so much just from watching that.

    Welcome!

On looting - free for all and pick up everything with main. The only pain is if you decided to do collection quests. Usually what I do is leave on free for all, loot with first toon until he has all the quest items he needs, then start looting with second toon until he has all quest items that he needs, and so on for all five. It is still a pain though ;-) - thats why many skip collection quests. On the other hand it means extra XP for grinding and completing said quests.

G'morning shaeman and welcome to the forums!

look for v1.8i (alpha out now,.. official to be released in a bit) and update your local version. then turn on 'focus-follows-mouse'... this makes looting on your alts MUCH easier. basically, just move your mouse to the other screen and click once to loot.. like you would on your main.

without 'focus-follows-mouse' you have to click to activate the window, then click again to loot. workable, but doesn't flow very well and is inconsistent with how you play your main.

if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to drop me a note.

have a great day and welcome to the family

Exactly what I do right now, but as Keyclone seems to be working on this, perhaps we'll have a better way soon. Excellent news Keyclone! 8o

Oh, and OP, welcome to the darkside...hehe. You'll never go back to 1 at a time now - well, I know I never will.

I have a comment for you. Your video of five mages in your sig is old and should be replaced with a new shiny one :P

yes it should... but i haven't had much play time.

currently, when i have had play time, i've been noodling with 'the boys'... 5x orc warriors. it's been interesting and the melee does help shake out limitations that i'm trying to address.

i will go back and level up 'the girls' at some point... maybe next month (crunch cycle @ the client site should be ending around then)
