New to all this but i was wondering could you use a different sex for your characters?.....A male dranei shaman and a Female would be awesome!

No, they all have to be the same sex, and race, otherwise they won't work together.
Also, make sure they are all wearing the same armour to reduce aggro, if one of them is wearing diffrent armour he generates more threat, this can be used to good effect on your tank. (Anyone who played Everquest will will note the value of a tank in pink Dyed armour)
