Default Multiboxer ... soon to be!

Hi everyone!

I have played wow since the beta and been a hardcore raider for some time now (>1 year). Im currently working my way through SWP with my guild ... but soon my work situiation will change and I wont be able to raid (since raids start before I get home). Im not ready to give up the game and though of trying a new angle: multiboxing. It has been something that has facinated me since I saw my first Xzin-movie (hi Xzin) a long time ago.

My plan is to go "all in" from the start, so yesterday I order myself a rig that hopefully will manage 5 accounts at the same time (I would love to have a 3-comp-6-screen-rig but there is not a_snowballs_chance_in_hell that I will be able to explain why I need 3 computers to play _one_ game, for my wife! *smile*).
Anyway this is what I orderd:
Intel Q6600 Quad Core 2.4Ghz
Nvidia GeForce 8800GT (512Mb)
4GB DDRs (800Mhz)

The computer comes with Vista but it seams I have to "downgrade" it to XP, after reading some posts on the forum!?

Im going to start with a 5xElemental Shaman setup ... for a couple of reasons:
- 5 x the same class will make things as easy as possible (multiboxing-wise).
- With 5 x Elemental shamans you can both PvP and PvE (thanx Veronica for the 5xElemental Shaman HC MGT-video).
- 20 totems / chain lightning / heals are sexy!
- Me want to DPS bigtime (I have only played healer(s) so far).

I have been lurking on the forums for a while and I have been collecting some useful macros. Now its time to order a copy of Keyclone and try it out on my current computer (I can move my keyclone-license once I get my new computer ... right?!).

I will continue to "lurk" for ~2 more weeks (the time it takes for me to get my new computer) ... then I might start spamming the forums! :-)

Welcome Neogeo!

Welcome to my world, that's one of the reason why I started multiboxing.

Intel Q6600 Quad Core 2.4Ghz
Nvidia GeForce 8800GT (512Mb)
4GB DDRs (800Mhz)
Totally okay but I would think about upgrading to 8 gb RAM, just maybe - I am using the same setup except for the GT, I use an Ultra but I assume there is not much of a difference.

I also use Vista which is totally fine, your FPS will go down of course but that doesnt matter for me at the moment since Vista is the best windows since a very long time imo. Other than that I really had no choice, XP and 4gb of Ram caused my microphone not to work but Vista allows it somehow so I went to Vista.
By the way I am 5boxing, too.

For the rest of your setup I wish you good luck and have fun with it as soon as you start it.

Hey man, welcome to the forums. Its always great to see some new faces here. Post some screenshots of your setup when you get everything up and running in the screenshots section. Love to see peoples setups.

You'll find a lot of vista haters here, but you by no reason "need" to "downgrade" to XP. In fact, depending on your monitor situation I would say NOT to unless you like horizontal span. Dual view in XP will kill your framerates because of an apparent bug with how it displays or something. You can fix this by either using horizontal span in xp, or switch to vista which fixes the bug.

I for one 5 box under vista, and have absolutely no issues with it. You can turn off the "are you sure, are you sure" stuff if you like also. If you like vista, ignore the haters. Also, true symbolic links in Vista rules.

Now its time to order a copy of Keyclone and try it out on my current computer (I can move my keyclone-license once I get my new computer ... right?!).
If you PM Keyclone and tell him the old system id, and the new system id he will change it over for you. If you plan to use keyclone on both however, you need a separate license for each machine. It sounds like you just want to move it and only use it on your new comp though. He's good about responding quickly to that kinda stuff.

Have fun man.

If you stick with Vista, make sure you install and run Keyclone as Administrator.

I love active forums, as well as people cheering you on ... I cant wait to get going.

I will post screens, dont worry. I have also knowledge in Fraps + Sony Vegas so I hope to make some videos as well (if the actual game-play dont "eat" all my spare time).

How do you set up the symbolc links in Vista (it might be very easy but since I have never played around with Visat I have no idea how to do this (yet)) and which files do you reccomend to link.

I don't know the exact command, I have a text file with it saved at home but I'm at work right now. But Chorizo has a snazzy shell script which takes care of it for you, I haven't used it but it's gotten good feedback. I'd recommend checking it out: [Other] PowerShell script to create symbolically linked (mklink) copies of WoW.

As for which folders, it depends on your needs. If you don't care about different config, then I'd say just run them all out of the same installation. I do it mainly because it allows me to have different graphics settings, macros, key bindings, etc.

I recommend doing the data folder primarily. So you'd have multiple copies of your wow installation, but the data folder (the real meat) is a symlink to the primary data folder. Only have to patch ones, all the caching is only done once and used by all the other instances. I highly recommend this for a setup.

Personally, I do the WTF folder as well so that I can define settings more finely across my instances, but that might not be necessary.
