Default Got my new rig today, bit upset with DELL atm...

Got my new XPS machine today, 4GB of Ram, Q6600, 8800 GT installed, exactly what I wanted. I however ordered a second 8800 GT to be installed into this machine, they said all was well and good. I get the machine open to put in the second card and I see 1 PCI-E x16 slot of course its the one the original 8800 is in. OMFG!!! $@#$@$!$#$@#$!

So now do I take my 4 17" widescreens apart and go get a 22" to run my alts on and chuck this second 8800GT on the shelf. Or do I try this FX5200 PCI I have for 2 of the screens.. ack

This kids is why prebuilts suck ;) Build it yerself and you have noone to blame but yourself, just like wipes as a multiboxer ;D lol

I highly recommend against a 5200 FX...I used to have one of those and it sucked running ONE wow at low res/graphics...I'll be amazed if you run one off of it let alone two :p

Buy 2x 22" screens and return the second 8800 for a refund. Or, get an SLI motherboard from Dell that is designed to fit in their case and work properly with all of their other components.

This is one reason why you never buy a Dell for a gaming machine. But seriously, there is no excuse for only one x16 slot. But that's what you expect from Dell, sadly.

    Return it.

/AGREE with above posters. The huge majority of prebuit pc's tend to be garbage. Also if you are interested in just how much money you can save building your own rig you should go price out what dell/gateway/whatever brand calls a gaming pc and then go price the same stuff out on new egg/tigerdirect or the like. You will generally be charged any where from 1k-3k for them to put the thing together. This is ridiculous. Anyone who has a bit of common sense and is willing to read the manuals can build a PC. Don't let PC companies rip you off with a 3-4k PC that you can put together yourself for 1-1.5k

/em is very pleased with his "garbage".

Seriously, over the years (since 1987) I've owned computers built by Dell, HP and Gateway. I've had cu$tom built machine$ and I even had one built at CyberPowerPC 8| . I've had laptops from Toshiba, Sony, Gateway and Dell. What I have learned is that no matter what PC I am using after a couple of years the technology has changed to the point where I want something completely new. I've resisted building my own because I am such a tinkerer I know I would spend all my time with the case open, tinkering. I like Dells a lot. I am very pleased with the three XPS420s I bought from Dell Outlet in January. They run very quiet and I've had no problems at all. I've learned to order the thing configured for my immediate and near future needs with no big plans to upgrade parts. I can order online and it arrives ready to go in 10 days or less. After a day of looking at all the new foo-froo software installed I do a reformat and start anew. I also like Windows Vista Ultimate! :whistling:
I've got something to show ya!
