We need a sticky that outlines why $75/mo is not that much:

    1. Going out to bars costs more
    2. Going out to clubs costs alot more
    3. Very cheap compared to other hobbies (cars, stereos, hunting) if softboxing
    4. Cheaper than most cellphone bills
    5. WAY cheaper than TV
    6. WAY cheaper than gas, in fact you'll be using alot less gas because you'll be home boxing all the time
1 Why I stopped going to bars... $40-80 a night
    2 I don't pay cover charges.. I'm cheap
3 Agree its why I multibox
    4 Mine is ~$56
5 My friend spends over $100 to watch digital cable and high def sports.
    6 Indeed

I had this trouble at first, Once I did it and after it was all setup and payed for. It help me look at my other expenses. I figured now that I play wow all the time after work, I don't need this or that... ect.. Also found some extra bills that get charged to me that I just got use to and ended up canceling (my old website). Ended up killing $60 a month so really WoW only cost me $15 extra a month

So, I setup a few trial accounts got the macros all setup and preceded to the whole 5 shaman and leveled up to 5, and I must admit I had a blast with it...it really put a new spin on the game, however, I can't convince myself that the 75 dollars a month that it would require to play like this is worth it...any comments on it?
I would say "not worth it" if the subscription fees even give you pause. For me paying for the 5 accounts (+2 for my wife) is cheaper than 1 typical evening "going out" for us and actually ends up saving us money that we would otherwise be spending on other forms of entertainment.

    Yup yup.

I've got a friend who's putting a rocket into the sky and I guarantee he's spent more on this ONE rocket than I have on WoW in the past 2 years.

My Fiance asked why I don't get another hobby, I pointed out that I have several I'd love to indulge in, but can't afford...

I love to build things, I'd love to build a woodshop and metal shop and be able to create my own furnature, shelving, etc... to be able to create items like this would actually be a money maker in the long run, but in the meantime I need a shop to do it in, to perfect my ideas, materials, tools, etc... cha-ching... I'd wager it's around $20,000 to get that started.

How about motorcycles, I love them and would love to build one for myself... but let me say that would be pricey.

I am on a bowling league and once a week I pay $17.50 to bowl 3 games which take about 90 minutes. That's $70 a month for 6 hours of "entertainment" or $11.66 an hour.

If I 5-box WoW (I only 3 box) I'd need to spend more than 6 hours a month enjoying it to cost less than my bowling league.

Needless to say I get more than 6 hours of enjoyment out of it PER WEEK so it's totally worth it for me and my entertainment budget.

I guess its not really the monthly cost that has me pausing, its the fact that I have to pay the 30 bucks to even start most of them to buy the full account box. so its a huge initial drop..

meh just did the math, since the orginal wow is only 20 bucks at my local store itll only really cost me 20 bucks to start up, since I deduct 15 for the free month, plus Ill just refer myself trials so my main account will get 4 months free play time..not bad actually

There ya have it. The refer a friend thing to yourself is really the way to go (what I did for my last 3 accounts), and gives you some wiggle room to test things out etc before taking the plunge.

I'd probably only play about 10 hours per week. That's 40 hours per month. Divide that by 100 (Aussie here), and I'm at 40c per hour. With a few important exceptions :whistling: , there's very little else I can do that's as entertaining that's 40c per hour.

I agree with too many on here to quote them all. For me, it was a tough call in the beginning but I talk myself into things rather than out. I am a college student who goes to school fully online. I pretty much go to school when I want. I work 40 hours a week and have my share of bills to pay (not as much as some but enough).

I figured, I could be spending this money on what typical college students do. Clubs, bars, parties, etc. Instead, I don't. I'm not that type of girl anyway. My sister spends more on beauty products in a month than I do on WoW (and I have one friend who spends $100 on alcohol for his parties!). It's all how you see it.

This has brought the fun back into WoW and is completely worth it. For me, this is my entertainment and PUGs/WoW idiots/drama was ruining the game for me. So, I play by myself, on my terms. Like others have said, try it out until level 20 and if it's not for you, leave 'em otherwise pay per month. At least then if you're going through a rough patch financially you can pick up when you're out of it.

I do think that if I had to change my computer(s) to do this, I wouldn't have. I don't have the dedication or the money like some people here. But, I'm blessed to have two computers who run WoW great so I make due with what I have.

Hope these comments help you make your decision and good luck!

Yer like my evil twin Mak(or am I the evil one? crap.) :p I don't care for parties clubs drinking and all that...I'm content to game and socialize through that. I work fulltime too and have family responsibilities(tending up the family tree, not down...last thing I need is a brat of my own, plus who would want another Eteo in the world? :P)

I haven't gone out of my way to multibox, I used what I had which, thanks to a motherboard blowing last year, was enough to tribox on at full settings without any issue...I may upgrade soon since the US gvt is literally throwing money at us to spend to try to help the economy and maaaaaaaaybe try 5boxing...we'll see how that pans out ;) But either way my income is comfortable enough to live on and have enough left over to put into savings + extra to devote to mental recreation like WoW. Only way I wouldn't consider it justified is if A) I didn't have fun doing it, or B) I actually NEEDED to spend the money elsewhere(I don't have to yet, knock on wood)
