Default Ideal monitor size for a two/three box setup?

As of right now I'm playing on a 50" plasma TV. I'm going to be switching back to my old 22" LCD because with the way WoW is, 50" is just too big.

When I split it into two instances the UI is way too small... I can't see squat, pretty much, unless I'm right up on the TV.

So... is 22" a good size?

What's the ideal monitor size for a two to three box setup? Any suggestions?

    50" whoa...

how about staying on the 50", and running a 5 box setup like this:

on a 50", the clones would be fairly good size and should be workable (can you measure the dimensions in inches.. just curious on a 50")

trick would be to get as high a res as possible

Haha, yah I'll do it tonight.

I've got the five accounts, they're just normally played by my fiance and our roommate... but they won't mind me borrowin' them for the night.

I'll set it up and measure them for ya, I'm pretty curious myself :P

Come on man, the best one is the biggest one, you know this. :P

    Well, OK, not really.

I assume you're running a 50" LCD TV? When I was monitor searching, a couple of my friends were also searching and decided to go this route. That was fortunate for me because I was able to go see theirs and....frankly...I wasn't impressed. They are running 1080p (1920x1080) which is all you need atm for TV, but is woefully inadequate for a 50" monitor sitting right in front of you. Not only was the picture pixelated as can be, but the color saturation was no where near as good as the computer monitors I'd been using.

All this lead me to choose a 30" dell monitor, and I've never regretted the decision once. You can see in my sig how I lay out my toons, and it works great. You can also consider the way Rob mentions above, and this is the way to go if you want to run the same aspect ratio for them (which you do if you use keyclone and its PiP). My problem is that when I run them like that, with the correct aspect, the clients are too small. Plus using the keyclone PiP can take up to 5+ second to switch in my scenario (not exactly sure why, but probably just because of the size of the viewports) so I can't really use it in an emergency condition. :/

I think the ideal scenario for me would be a 30" dell, with a 22" on each side turned 90 degrees. Main toon on the 30, two clones on each 22. Plus you could use the 22" as each desktop space when you weren't wowing.
No matter where you go, there you are.

hey Bob.. there is a new version in the pipe that will resolve your aspect ratio issues.

i'm trying to get more in before the next release. just letting you know, relief is in sight.

as for the pip swap time.. i believe that is due to wow updating its internal graphic surfaces to the new resolution...
(can anyone confirm this? is there a way to keep it from doing this? PMs are always private)

therefore, i believe it is a factor of your hardware and resolution

Great, Rob. Thanks for the support, as always.

Yeah, I'm not sure of the exact reason, but I suspect it has something to do with my running such a large main window. I'm probably going get either 1, or if I'm feeling really spunky 2!, 9800GX2 here in a little while, so maybe that extra horsepower will help out. I hope so, cause it really bums me out that I can't use it, it's such a great feature for boxing.
