Default Question about a one PC four monitor set up.

What is the best way to do this?

I've been looking at using this motherboard.

    Two of these:

8Gb ddr, vista 64-bit, rest doesn't matter much.

But I have no experience running more then one videocard in one pc. Is it feasable to run a quad set up with four monitors with this hardware?

Yes you will have no problems, although the 9800 might be a bit of overkill ;) I was running 4 monitors off a Radeon x1950XT and a lame Radeon HD2400Pro (now that can't cut multiple Wow ;) )

Okay, but basicly, will I be able to run four monitors individually, or would I need splitters, etc?

Or if I put in two cards, I can hook up four monitors, and somehow install it all on y desktop...?

You won't need splitters, those cards have 2 outputs each so can run an extended desktop accross 4 monitors, all you have to do is plug the monitors in and enable them from the control panel or whatever software Nvidia supplies.

If you want to span instead of having extended desktops, you will be only able to span across monitors on the same card, but not across cards (so 2x spanned across 2x monitors)

Thanks a lot for the information, but just got word on IRC on this as well...

Apparantly running four monitors on one pc will lower the framerate dramatically. Some driver/dirextx issue.

I run 3 monitors on 2 8800 GT cards, frame rate appears 'OK' although I have nothing to compare it to. Normally 30 fps on my main running 5 instances over 2 of the monitors all graphics turned down.

    What OS?

I had no probs running all my mindows on my main 24" (1950XT) while none were running on the 19" and 17" monitors driven from the crappy HD2400pro

Vista 64 bit (Quad 2.4 and 4 GB Ram). Card A runs 2 monitors (1680 x 1050) one of which I use for my master instance. Card B runs 1 monitor with 4 slave instances.

I just read through Nitro's post... Shame about the perf hit :( I was running all instances from one card... I tried across cards but assumed the HD2400pro was to blame... perhaps some of it was the dual card issue :(

For best performance you want to use 2 identical cards... and if you are on windows XP get vista 64bit or even xp 64bit. XP has issues with directx over multiple displays. I was running 2x monitors on a geforce 8500GT on 1 card and was having FPS issues due to the directx issue. I'm currently in the process of bulding 1 cpu that will have 4 monitors using close to the same setup as the OP, or I'm going to make 4 cheap boxes and go 100% hardware.
