Thread: Who to pick?

    Default Who to pick?

Hi, I am Just about to start 5Boxing (Battlechests and RAM on the way 8o) And Have some group issues, for one, i haven't decided on a tank, another is about Dps My original plan was to have my grp make up as (tank)+Boomkin+Shammy+Mage+Priest(healer), but i'm starting to think 5 different classes is a bad idea, help please? In any case i was thinking of replacing the boomkin with a mage (keep the shammy because of totems) is this a good idea?
Also what tank shud i have, on one account i have a 60 Prot pala and 60 Prot War, and a 30 Feral Druid! Please Help?
    Thanks

Mixed groups are great once you get the hang of writing dps macros. Also its nice that you can use just about every piece of loot. However the more classes you add, the harder it gets to maximize the dps. Common route here is paladin + 4 shaman. I'm really tired of that combo so I am trying other stuff. It's really up to you and what you find fun.

If it is your first team, I'd go with one of these compositions.

    5x Elemental Shaman
    4x Elemental Shaman + 1x Paladin (Ret 1-39, Prot 40+)
    5x Balance Druid.

If you think you'd like to pvp on the team, Shammies are more successful in Arena, Druids are just as viable for world/BG's.

Down the road, one of the shammies/druids could easily dual-spec or respec Resto, if you'd like to do heroics.
With the shammy team, a pally lets you do heroics.
With the druid team, one of them can dual/re-spec to feral and a bear is a strong tank too.

If you go with the mixed pally/shammy team, the pally is a weak link in pvp's.
You could run 4x shammies and sit the pally out.
You could spec the pally to heals and run with the group.
The more diversity you have the harder it will be to use it all, particularly in pvp's.
4x shammies, with someone else playing a healer toon has had a lot of success in arena.

I'm not saying don't go with a mixed team.
Just that a mixed team is quite a bit harder, especially for a first team.

Starting out try to stick to one or 2 or 3 classes. Just makes things easy for you.

With regards to tank, get a paladin, much easier to box than other tanks and just as effective.

I have to agree with the above posters with regards to mix groups. they do require a bit more work than 4 shammie 1 prot pali but i found thats mainly time spent researching each classes dps and figuring out how to macro it.

And finaly on what classes to take if you decide to make a mixed Id really suggest dropping the mage, as they are so mana hungry even if they out dps the rest of your team(my mage never does) you lose the benefit from it by having to drink all the time. I have a mixed group using pretty much what you suggest and Im in the process of lvling a hunter to replace the mage, unfortunatly. and definatly keep a boomkin in! way too much utility to lose, there great off healers, off tanks, the only other class you could duel spec tank if needed in your group, they can battle rez and no end of other things that make then perfect for a mixed group. plus my booms DPs is aove my mages 99% of the time

So do you guys think Prot Pally, 2x Shammy, Boomkin and PRiest is a good group for end game heroics?

I think level a bunch of different teams to 60 while you have RAF and then mitch and match whatever you want and whatever makes you happy

I'm running pally, shaman, Mage and oomkin and works a treat with castrandoms. I've set The 2 button for tanking only, 1 for dps, 3 for instant cast dps and pushbacks, and shift 1,2,3,4 for heals. Planning on adding my destro lock for insane dps. About to dual-spec shaman as healer for more options.

I agree with pally tank, been struggling with fury war macro, and 96969 macro works.

There are a lot of things to consider. If this is your first 5box group and you don't have any or much boxing experience, I would keep it simple. Paladin tank and 4x whatever. However once you get the basics and some advanced stuff down, you will prolly enjoy a mixed group better. Take a minute and think about the group you want to put together and why. Here is some food for thought.

Here are some things to take into account when makeing a group.
    Who can heal?
    Who can rez?
What armor do they use so drops don't go to waste and your not having to farm something 99 times to get 4-5 of the same drop.
What buffs/debuffs do you have? Things that lower your hit cap, Boost your crits, MP5, spell power etc.

My mixed group that I am going with is a Paladin, Druid, Priest and 2x Shaman.
    All can heal.
    All Can rez.
I can use all armor drops, only the two shaman compete for gear.
    Lots of buffs, totems, debuffs
    All can AOE,
    All can single target burst.
