I played on a RP server for two years and participated in several roleplaying guilds. I never could get the whole thy, thou, and thines down to where I didn't sound like an idiot. (I beseech thee m'lord. Thou presence hast been called upon to quell the unrest of thine subjects.) That crap sounds good but I know it ain't right.Originally Posted by 'Mak',index.php?page=Thread&postID=59441#post59441
People that RP, I mean the folks whose sole reason to log in is to RP, are too busy roleplaying to level. I knew a woman on Earthen Ring whom when I met her was 19th lvl, and after about 18 months or so when I saw her again she was like 32nd lvl or something. They lose themselves into their characters. They typically do one or the other; level or roleplay. Most of the time they choose the latter, they'll roleplay the ENTIRE time they're logged in.
I roleplay my teams all the time and have created persona's for each of them. Gotta have one that is nice, one that is mean, and one that is just cool. One of my male toons is an asshat to my female toon and treats her like crap. Not only her thou. He treats everybody like crap. My other toons hate him. Hell, my friends hate him...except for one guy. He thinks that toon is misunderstood.![]()
That toon will straight up yell (all caps) at her for being either poor or when he dies because she didn't throw a heal his way. (meaning I messed up getting a heal off). She apologizes profusely and almost seems to cry when he doesn't stop yelling.
More often than not other people will come to her defense and she'll get some help doing a smackdown on him. She can hold her own when she wants to, trust me on that.
She supposedly never has any money so she's always asking for cash. A couple of times he was so mean to her at AH that strangers came up and freely gave her gold! Another time someone whispered he had been reported for badly trashing her but I never heard from a GM so I don't think he actually created a ticket. (See how I speak about them in third person? That's something me and my therapist are currently working on.)
One woman, she has to be a real female, spits/slaps/rude whenever she sees my rude guy. They're typed so quickly that she has to have them macroed. (Oh, he's been rude to her too, but it was provoked since she jumped in a "conversation" she wasn't invited to.)
When I'm roleplaying, even thou my guys are always together, nobody picks up that I'm multiboxing. To the untrained eye it appears it's two people who are too lazy to control their characters that they /follow another character, but are "there" since they interact in whatever conversation that is happening.
My friends get a kick out of watching, and are getting more comfortable participating. Strangers walk up to see who is "putting their stuff out in the street" and sometimes will get caught up in a show that's designed solely to entertain them! I get a huge kick out it.
Yeah, I know all of this sounds very twisted and sick and borders on multiple personality syndrome or perhaps schizophrenia, but once you've actively roleplayed for an extended period of time you'll always do it in one form or another.
M'LORD.
