well.. the 5x orc warriors is a test i decided to try the other day... and so far, it's just fun. i ran into itm last night.. sat on vent and talked about movement issues and what not... basically, i slacked off last night and didn't do much 'tech support' and actually played.

my background:
i created keyclone about 2 years ago.. for shadowbane. i was a nonstop fiend with it and it was devasting to my enemies. in the end, after seeing keyclone and what i could do... stray bullet effectively changed the motto of the game from "PLAY TO CRUSH"... to "PLAY TO CRUSH... a little".. and promptly nerf'd the targeting system in an effort to eliminate multi-boxing.

about that time, i had to travel for work.. and was away from a month or two before BC to last Christmas. while on the road, i did what i could for people, but couldn't really multi-box myself (my laptop could handle 3 wows... but the bandwidth sucked hard). so i did mostly tech support, developed keyclone, and lived vicariously through others. since being home, i have sacrificed my wow time and spent it helping people get into multi-boxing, supporting the community, and improving keyclone. in the end, i think it's paid off and there seems to be quite a few people that are thrilled to find multi-boxing so accessible.

so yea.. last night was fun (thanks itm), and i'll probably play all weekend (oh no.. slacker Rob surfaces!)

as for my gear, my home setup is very ghetto compared to some of the beastly rigs i've seen here. my rig was put together about 2 years ago, and i'll probably update in the next couple of months (or this weekend if it drives me crazy).

i'm running 1 desktop (AMD64 3500+ 2.2GHz single core w/ 3G ddr2 and a single 8800GT OC running xp), an old laptop (4+ years, 1.5GHz single core w/ 1G ddr2 and 64M integrated ATI radeon mobility running xp), and a newer laptop (dell insipirion, 1.5 GHz dual core, with 1G ddr2 and integrated video w/ 256 SHARED memory... running vista.. sucks)

i would typically run 5 across all 3. when i got the 2nd monitor on the desktop, then i ran 2 on the desktop, 2 on the old laptop, and 1 on the vista box (it couldn't run 2)

but when i deployed PiP.. well... my laptops haven't been used much since. i run my main on one screen and a 2x2 on the other. all in 1280x1024 horizontal span, which i found gave better fps then dual view. the big win was the bump to 3G from 2G of memory... once you get to about 80% of physical memory, xp starts to swap.. and the thrash dance starts (you don't want this). the 8800GT OC w/ 512M is also a very nice win (and pretty cheap)

i'm getting about 30 fps on the main and 10 fps on the alts, with enough left over for my browser, irc, IM, and vent. remember, this is a single core... and an old one at that.

it's very playable in the field, but lags hard in orgrimmar. PiP swap can take time, but the focus-follows-mouse is almost perfect since i put in the 8800. i have plans on upgrading to a quad core.. but i'm dragging ass a bit on the purchase (it'll be about $1000)

my other groups have been 4xmage + 1xpriest... all but 1 has been horde (sorry alliance)... but someday (maybe soon?) i'm going to go back and level up 'the girls' from the video. my intention would be to have a 3-5 minute video showing action shots as they level up from 1 to 70.. with very cool background music like Vyndree does (I WANT VYNDREE BACK!)

ok.. that's enough of a wall-o-text for now. if i keep the orcs passed 10, i'll post some pics

side note:
blizzard needs to add something like /ham-it-up which would have the character strike some random pose looking at their current target .. the picture taker

see y'all on the irc/vent. have a great weekend!

edit: i was so tired last night (basically drolling in my shoes).. i forgot it was itmonkey, not guurb... sorry buddy
LOL this is actually really funny. I started up a Melee team multiboxing project that I almosted posted the details on the forums a couple of times now but my current post is rather long and rambling and I'm still editing it and trying to make up a couple of pics to explain a few tips on movement techniques. I was planning on working on it tommorrow and having something posted on it but since you guys are talking about it here I guess I'll give a couple of details now.

Basically I've run a couple of different groups just up to lvl 6-8 just to get movements down. 2x warriors, 3x warriors, 3x paladins, 5x paladins, 3x rogues, and I haven't yet but I'll probably switch my shamans up at sometime to enhancements to give a try. Anyways after messing around with all those groups I've discovered that while annoying at first a group full of melee is quite doable and I'm more or less getting about 95% of all swings in right as the swing timer resets.

I decided to start up a 4x Orc warrior 1x Orc shaman team and run them up until probably around lvl 30 or so...depending on how well it goes along the way.

CURRENTLY they are lvl 13.5 and are going through RFC. I've only had the time to kill the felguard demon boss a couple of times the past couple of days but I don't have work tomorrow and I'm planning on clearing the whole zone.

First Impressions:

The good: Not having to worry about mana and casting times and standing still is so freaking nice. You can dps on the run and I have yet to have to eat or drink. While yes you get hit more often than a caster team the warriors are more durable then my shamans.

The bad: With casters you do quite a bit of dmg before the mob even touches you. With a bit of practice you really can make your melee hit your target a very large percentage of the time, however there are sometimes that the mobs are being extremely difficult and getting all your hits in is an annoying task. Lag KILLS melee dps, especially when the mob bugs out and it looks like he is in one place frozen when in fact he is somewhere else killing your toons

Overall: So far I believe that this is very doable. I know that this is just RFC and later on some of the encounters become much less melee friendly but I'll tackle those challenges as they come. Either way if I do or don't make it work this is a blast which is what gaming and hobbies are really about in the end
