Default Quick question regarding new version 1.8g

    Hello,

I apologize if this has been addressed elsewhere (didn't find it in a quick search), but I wanted to ask a question regarding the way the individual instances of WoW are labeled following the latest updated. To explain, previously, when I selected a Command from the drop down box to load a specific instance, such as Bob1, when that instance of WoW came online, it showed in the keyclone screen as "Bob1". Since the new release, I either have to manually add each instance to keyclone, or have the auto add selection checked for windows named world of warcraft.

Basically, I know this is something simple, but it seems to be eluding me. I'd like to have the titles showing up in keyclone match the name of the command that I've entered in the command editor like it did before I updated. This makes it easier to keep track of my separate accounts.

Also, as a question, is there any way to enter a command in the keyclone that's running on my main machine and have it trigger on a 2nd instance of keyclone working on an alt machine? I know you can right click the remote instance and select run, and manually type in the command, but I was curious if you can have the main machine with a "run wow1,wow2,wow3<remote computer run wow4, wow5" type of setup. I would imagine that most people simply have the secondary instance of keyclone already set up to run the 4th and 5th (or whatever) instances, while the main machine runs the first 3, but I wanted to see know if it was possible to use the startup command to trigger a 2nd pc's keyclone commands.

I don't know if I've explained this very well, but hopefully someone can decipher what I'm trying to say and help me make sense of it all.

    Thanks!

G'afternoon Garret and welcome to the forums!

the short answer is yes to both questions.

the command name is supposed to be shown in the keyclone list. if you are using commands, it is recommended that you UNCHECK auto-add. if your wow is not being added after you execute the command, that's because another program ran in front of it. go to the properties of your wow.exe and look for xp sp2 compatibility mode or advanced text services... try turning these off and re-running your command. if all is working properly, your command will trigger and your wow will appear in the keyclone list (no auto-add needed)

you would also be able to use the maximizer... if you wish

as for running commands on remote keyclones... yes, that is also available. you need to set or know the remote keyclone's name (specified in setup/general). once that keyclone connects in, the name should appear. once it appears, you can execute a command on that machine.
    ie:

assuming you have 2 remote machines/keyclones... name B and C each with 2 wow commands ... from keyclone on machine A you would use the command:

    B:wow2;B:wow3;C:wow4;C:wow5;wow1

this will run wow2 and wow3 on machine B, wow4 and wow5 on machine C... and wow1 on the local machine

    i hope that helps.

Thank you for the quick response and the welcome. I've been reading the forums for some time, but I only recently dived into the madness that is 5 boxing.

With regards to what you wrote, I understand now how to utlize the secondary copies of keyclone to initiate commands, so that is awesome- I appreciate the help. With regards to the command titles showing up in keyclone, that is still a problem. None of my WoW.exe's have anything checked in the compatibility tab, and this had not been an issue until I updated to the newest version. Also, I had the auto add feature turned off prior to this coming up, as they were adding just fine before the update (with the titles matching the command name). As a question, when I installed the new update, I didn't uninstall the old version first. Could this possibly be causing the issue? I don't recall seeing anything about that, but otherwise I'm somewhat stumped as to why they aren't showing up.

If you think of anything else I could try, I'd appreciate it. I'm sure it's something on my end that's borked, but right now I'm at a loss to understand it. The only other thing that I did near the time I updated was install Multiplicity. Could this be interfering in some way? Regardless, I very much appreciate the help.

    Rob,

Just a quick response again to the above- I've tried what you've listed, and I still do not have command name listed in the keyclone title area. I have to manually add each instance, even after using commands. Auto add unchecked, xp sp2 mode and advanced text services are not checked.

This does not appear to be a widespread problem, so I'm going to reinstall and see if that helps, but I wanted to run this by you to see if you have anything else I can check related to this. Thanks for your help.

well.. here's the thing. when keyclone runs a program specified via the command, it grabs the main window associated with that process. if that window closes, keyclone loses the process and the window is not added to the list

so.. when you run a command.. and the fact that it comes up.. but no window is placed in the keyclone list... this implies another window is running first, then disappears.. as your wow window finally pops up.

this happens when you run launcher.exe.. keyclone will grab the launcher.exe window... which in turn fires up wow.exe.. then exits... leaving keyclone with no window to track.

your situation sounds very similar to this, but we just don't know the window in front of your wow window.

do you have any language translation on the machine? keyboard translators? multi-language keyboard support? there is a locality type thing that can get in front of all apps... which you can opt out of on a per application basis. (only heard of it once ... so far)

let me know if any of this sheds any light. also, if you reformat / re-install.. you'll have to have your license transferred... just drop me a PM with the info and i'll get you up and going in no time.

    Thanks for the response, Rob.

I don't have any language translation software installed. It's weird, but this really did begin happening at the time I upgraded, so I don't know if I somehow managed to corrupt something, or if I just have some other software that doesn't want to play nice with this version. Regardless, I'll stick to auto add or manually adding them for now. Great program, just had gotten used to my command name titles showing up automatically.

I know it's impossible to trace down the problem, given the sheer number of potential causes based on end users having every software and hardware configuration under the sun, but if you hear of anyone else with this issue, or think of something else to try, I'd appreciate it if you'd pass it along.

    Thanks again.

here's another thought... rename you ini file, effectively removing it. then run keyclone.

you will have to reconfigure.. but i'm wondering if you have some odd maximizer layout (although the wow should still be added to the keyclone list)

so, just try removing/renaming the ini file and see if that helps

Renamed the ini, no luck. Created a simple command to the wow.exe, typed it in, wow started up, no title in window. (I turned off auto add first, as it appears to be a default option.)

I uninstalled multiplicity as well, just to check. Didn't change anything. Really kind of a weird deal, but I can add the windows manually, or just auto add them as identical wow windows, even though it's launching via commands. Thanks for the suggestions, though.
