    Default Question on Targetting

    Ellay,

Do you have your system setup to be able to work from a different toon? I'm understanding that you use /assist targetting and also use a /focus macro to /focus what the main is targetting, so each char can have 2 targets (to pull the unsuspecting combo on the focus target).

With /assist and /focus being utilized to target foes, where do you have room for a "main switch"? Or possibly you just don't, as once your main dies in arena, that might be it anyways.

I was about to switch to the above method of targetting when I realized BGs might be difficult, as my Main still does occaisionally die. With no way to "switch" mains, as my macros would be locked into /assist'ing my main character, I could easily be made useless without a healer.

Is there a method I'm not seeing? Thanks for any help (from anyone!).

You could have your /follow and /assist commands set up to target your highest ranking toon that is still alive. This can cause some problems at the time of death as it switches instantly whether you want it to or not.

You could also have one button to have the rest assist or follow each toon letting you switch your main at any point with the only drawback of using a lot of buttons.

I dont know how helpful this is for any more than 2 boxing, but I made a getto rig that helps me swap mains in the event of one toon kicking over.

I have a HUGE aversion to using the shift key in any of my keybindings, I will use CTRL+ALT before the shift... its just not something that I can personally use. I set my secondary toon to use the bindings as if it was my main and then set all of the actions/spells/macros to be SHIFT+the key that I needed. I also did the same for my main, so I can easily swap back and forth with basically a "shift key means I'm the secondary toon" sort of setup. I then push down the shift key on my second keyboard and jam a quarter in there to hold the key down.

If I need to swap mains for some reason I just move my quarter from one keyboard to the other and in event of an emergency I will flick the quarter out and take over with the loss of about a half a second (ok once it was a freak accident and when I flicked the quarter it actually just rolled up and held down the enter key and I sent a wall of gibberish to my guild. but that was only once)

It is a ghetto setup but I use it when I 2 box with wow now. I got the idea from a different mmo where if you held down CTRL you could spam a skill with the mousebutton, and shift did nothing so you could roll the quarter up to the shift key when you didn't need the ctrl pressed.

just keybind f9 f10 f11 f12 as your main toon switch

im assuming when you fire up all your toons you got one button that sets /focus to your main on all 4 clones

just make sure your "assist" macros look like:

/cast [target=focustarget] spellname; spellname <--- this allows you to fire same spell if no focus target..

    then on clone2 f9 = /clearfocus //clone 1 3 4 5, f9= /focus clone2

making clone2 your new brain (allowing all your [target=focustarget] macros work.. and your new brain /main since it doesnt have a focus will fire the spell normally

    clone3 f10 = /clearfocus // clone 1 2 4 5, f10 = /focus clone3
    clone4 f11 = /clearfocus // clone 1 2 3 5, f11= /focus clone4
    clone5 f12 = /clearfocus // clone 1 2 3 4, f12 = /focus clone5

i know its got mad redudnancy .. but lets say fear bomb gets you all spreadout // you can quickly click your screen for toon x press the respondant fkey to make the closest one th the "battle" the brains and fire away .. and then as your new brain gets away you can spam the same buttons you always do to gather up the clones

ps i got it setup that way for my 2 mages so i can swiftly swap to my second // but if you get all the keys set to fire the comands above it should let you swap brains at any time (and then press your current /focus main to get all of um back to the primary setup

if your using /assist it gets way more difficult cause then youd have to edit all your macros/ add keybinding stuff like the fellow above for 2 thats fine i guess but for 5 im betting it wouldnt be taht fun to have 4 diff buttons to hold down

works fine for me on keyclone.. and if your passing keys from 5 diff keyboards or some such just need to map out the keys for each keyboard .. or whatever but ya it can be done

Ya I just fixed the thread.

As for the question I still use /focus for all of my following shaman to assist my main, but my main character focuses a target for a quick switch on my side. Just make a macro that target your focus target for easy switching

Yeah, I'm all about /focus targetting. It makes things so much easier. 1-button switching of the main.

Alright thanks guys, and sorry for the bad subject line.

I have my toons set up in [target=focustarget] with instant "main" switching that has never failed me, perhaps I was just misinterpretting the UI used in one of Ellay's videos.

    Thanks all.

How do your macros account for having a different focus on your main and followers? The way I'm currently set up, I'm forced to have my main focus my main so that all the toons use the same [target=focustarget] macro.
