I've been reading through the many comments in different threads.
I find it interesting that some people are having a hard time getting refunds, while others have no problem at all.
I also find it interesting that some people have/are receiving warning emails from blizzard while others are not.

It would seem odd that making a new policy change as substantial to this that they would not have a clear definition laid out and in place to handle refunds etc...

I really don't believe that "it's just up to who you get to handle your case", "how the person you get is feeling that day", or "the CS agent's view toward boxing" to determine if you get a refund for anything. I bet it is in more depth than that. Do you have any marks on your account, have you ever had marks on your account. Have you ever been suspended before, how many copies of wow do you box 2, 5, 40?

Again, I just find this all interesting and to help people that may be trying to figure this out I'll give my info below.

    • Wow subscriber since 2004
    • Started hardware boxing 2005 to late 2007
    • Started software boxing late 2007 to present day
    • Have only paid for subscription 1x on one account with game token
    • Focused on PVP until follow was removed. Focused on PVE strictly after
    • Really don’t farm. When I do it’s for myself and not to sell on AH. Yes I farmed the mount spots, only when they were not busy, never being an ass to others trying to rush kills before them, and only an hour a day until I got the item I was looking for. Only for an hour not because I was worried about doing anything wrong, but because farming is the most boring crap in the world to do. My opinion. Also never took part in these 2x4 farms or whatever their called.
    • I do have a team of druids for mining / herbalism. Again, I hate farming and the only time I farmed with this team was when I needed something profession wise for my team and again, could only stand about an hour / day when that was needed.
    • My main teams / characters have always been on Tichondrius since day 1. I tried a couple different servers through the years for a few weeks at a time, but my mains never changed and never really stopped playing them. Right before this policy change I was in fact transferring my mains to Hyjal because I was so sick of the toxicity of people on the server. Not multiboxing related, just being general ass hats every which way around to anyone and everyone.
    • I have never purchased gold, or items from a 3rd party
    • I have never had an infraction, suspension or ban on any of my accounts.
    • I have spoken to an in-game GM twice (do those even exist anymore?) in all my years playing wow. Once in 2005 and again in 2007 I believe. Both were super cool, amazed at what I was doing and the guy I spoke with in 2007 said that even a few of the dev’s over at blizzard enjoy multi-boxing on their own time. Truth or not, don't know. But we had a good 10 minute conversation.
    • I figured around 2010 that I must have some type of flag / note on my account because despite people doing the whole /reported crap I never once was spoken with about my multi-boxing again.
    • I always spoke with others in a civil, non-confrontational manner. If they asked, I tried my best to explain what was going on to them. The people that just threw out random /t of Bots, other negative messages I just ignored. Even the ones that were doing an obvious AFK check (even though my guys did not say AFK) I ignored, unless they were nice and creative about it.
    • I always participated in wow events and never tried to “hide” my characters. Was never afraid of being among others or tried to hide my gameplay.
    • Once the policy change took effect, I immediately cancelled my accounts. I then contacted blizzard using their horrible online stuff regarding my 1x shadowlands purchase (think was epic edition, the 80$ one) and my recent character transfers. There was either 15 or 20 transfers I had done from Tichondrius to Hyjal.
    • The refund request I wrote was civil, professional and to the point. I expressed my sadness that my hobby was going away in a short simple manner and why I thought I should be refunded over $300.00 despite knowing they have “NO” reason to refund me what so ever. I also let them know that if they ever decide to update their policy to allow multi-boxing again (in the current form) that I would be back.
    • The very next day I got a response to my refund request saying they were sorry to see me go, that they understand with this new change in policy why I would be upset and how they could see my point of view regarding the refunds. They refunded everything but a couple character transfers stating that too much time had gone by.
    • I have also received no such warning email about the use of 3rd party software and I have been logged in since the policy change with Innerspace & Isboxer loaded up. I did one last PVE run and then started cleaning up my banks and stuff getting the characters ready for a long sleep.

Sorry for the long post all, but hopefully this can give some insight to others why certain things may or may not be happening with their accounts.
All in all, despite it sucking that I can’t play my hobby anymore, I feel like my interactions with Blizzard and requesting the refunds were handled in a very professional manner on their end.

I know I could hardware box, I have all the equipment to do so, but do I really want to right now?
I’m already sick of the community (wow community) and its sort of like the same thing going from multi-boxing 5 accounts down to 1 account in regards to using IsBoxer > Hardware.
I’m spoiled now because of InnerSpace/IsBoxer and in my mind hardware boxing would suck in comparison. Now if Lax ends up doing some slim down version that strips away everything that violates their new policy, but still provides some quality of life functionality will I hardware box then?
    MOST LIKELY!

Thanks for all the good info and my history and experiences are similar except that I mainly stopped boxing and having multiple subscriptions when I saw #PandaGate coming up until the Classic Launch... While there was a period I was not boxing I was a loyal & continuous Blizz subscriber/customer as in between that time I just kept my primary Collector's Edition account active and would come back from time to time to check out new Expansions and or collect battle pets/mounts or Hunter pets or what not (also tried the new classes and some of the new races).

I am not 100% sure I will cancel my boxing subscriptions permanently and stop boxing soon but may. Even if I do I will likely keep my main account active like I always have... For now I am at least thinking & theory crafting ways and approaches that may allow the community to continue boxing in a compatible/compliant way and may do some testing if I have time and the desire to play a new way... I do look forward to both Lax releasing a skinny & compliant version AND seeing some confirmation that it is acceptable to Blizzard and will gladly come back to software...

Regarding refunds what I saw folk as getting consistent success on was any/all ShadowLands purchases and getting subscriptions on extra accounts cancelled and most/all of the remaining time transferred to their main account (I think one person is now good game-time-wise to 2023 if my memory is correct). Thankfully for me ShadowLands-wise the only thing I bought so far is 1 boxed Collectors Edition (which I wanted anyway) so I don't need to worry about it on my other accounts. I was starting to level a Tank+3Hunter+RestoDruid team for SL and was going to buy at least 4 more basic ShadowLands Expansions to 5box in SL but haven't yet and now glad I didn't.
